5 mile run at 9 o'clock this morning then a 9 mile bike ride this afternoon with my son, you'd think it was nearly holiday season or something :icon_mrgreen:

Was pulling 130kg 3x8 there, can go higher with less reps but form can go out the window, and correct form is very important to me.

Not done much cardio in the last 2 month probably bout 50 minutes worth, time to up the game before my holiday in two weeks

    That's tremendous mate.

I'm pulling 170x3 just now, think about 190 1RM though not tested a max in quite a while.

220x3 is a long way away, further in fact as I need to focus on cardio just now.

Did maxifit at the weekend and swear to * by the time I hit the tread I couldn't walk, one of the boys smashed his @ 19.3KM/h, incline of 1.6%, alright as a one off, but after 6 disciplines it's a stunning run :D

Edinburgh marathon for me on Sunday!

I did my first ever 20 mile run last week and am winding it down this week with little 2-3 mile runs to get some recovery but keep ticking over. Knees are feeling the pace a wee bit, but I've been icing every night and doing exercises.

Looking forward to it now, I've put the work in over the last 4-5 months and just want to get on with it now. :50:

I'm gonna switch to lower weights higher reps shortly, but will keep in some heavy singles @ about 90%, hate losing that 1rm range haha.

Managed to knock about a stone off myself without losing much strength though my 1RM on my bench dropped about 7.5KG from the end of last year.

Will get that back later in the year though :D

Good weight yer knocking out there, I do a Wendler calc of weightsxrepx0.0333+weight=approx 1RM, as a rule of thumb, that'd stick you about 165KG, in case you want an indicator, get a 160 tried mate :D

    Hope you smash it.

Good luck mate, I'll be running it too.

If I were you, I wouldn't bother running this week at all. 20 miles takes a * of a lot out of you and it takes a good while to recover from it, especially if you've got a dodgy knee.

Got a bit of an injury scare myself with a strained right thigh muscle. Gonna be painful on Sunday but I'll just have to grit my teeth for a few hours and get through it.

What time you looking for out of interest?

Good luck to the both of you, think ill wait a bit longer before doing the full marathon. Will do the september half marathon again in glasgow and try and really improve my time.

Got 1h 55m with two toilet breaks included so i reckon it was around 1h50m.
This time around ill be looking for sub 1h 45m maybe even 1h 40m.

Yep, I did 4 miles on Friday and 3 last night, will be doing no more now. Just exercises and ice packs on the knees. :50:

I put down 4.5 hours, to be honest I'll be happy as long as it's under 5. I've ran a few half marathons at about 9 minutes a mile, I've been training for the full marathon at about 10.5 minutes a mile, so I expect to probably come in around 4hrs 45 minutes all being well. :50:

    How about you?

Don't ask haha AD is a pretty fast runner think he will be aiming for 3h 30 mins or around that time, anyway good luck it is one of the hardest things physically i find in any distance whether its 10k 21k or 42k you just have to keep telling yourself to keep going keep pushing.

You will surprise yourself at how well you will actually do.

I'm guessing its your first one? I think just getting round on your first time is a great achievement. You don't realise how much those extra 6 miles demand of you, but the feeling at the end is fantastic. Then even better when you're starting your first beer. One tip, don't start to fast. If anything go a bit slower, you can always speed up later on.

You'll probably find that if your knee holds up OK then the excitement and adrenaline will keep your speed up. Good luck reaching your time, makes the months of training really worth it.

I did 3 hours 53 last year, practically crawled the last 4 miles though with cramp. Was hoping for 3:15-3:20 this year pre-injury having done 19 miles in bang on 2 hours. But I'll take 3:30 if you offered me it now. That's only 8 minute miles which I reckon I could force out.

YAAAAS :56:. You're right about the mental thing though. If you don't do any distance running then you've no idea how hard it can be to keep pushing when you're already hurting and still have several miles to go.

This won't be popular, but I think any top distance runner is a lot stronger mentally than any body builder.

Ive been bodybuilding on and off for about 15 years and its a 24 hour a day sport, in regards training, diet, rest and recovery its a lifestyle which requires an incredible amount of commitment. Thats why I say ive been bodybuilding on and off because I struggle with the commitment with my job and family commitments obviously coming first.
Even with that I would still tend to agree with your comment about the mental strength required for distance running being more than for bodybuilding.. Imagining what you describe seems like a nightmare to me!

Yeah it's my 1st full marathon, I've completed 3 half marathons pretty comfortably, so decided it was time for a step up! To be honest, I feel fit and ready, I know the last 6 miles will be tough, but there are 3 of us running the race that have trained together, we all help each other through 'bad days', so as long as there are no injuries, I have no worries about finishing the race. :50:

Yeah we are looking forward to a well-deserved * up after it! I think 4 hrs 30 minutes is realistic with our planned pace and the adrenaline like you say.

Your times are pretty impressive! I could only dream about that! I'm 34 and had never run a mile until I was 31, plus I'm not very quick naturally, but I really enjoy it. :50:

Good luck mate, hope the injury disappears for the day and you hit the time. :50:
