made me think what has happened to this, wouldnt call it love, but mutual liking/respect united and celtic fans used to have for each other clubs. Like myself many manchester lads come from an irish background :celt 2: and many were educated to support celtic and United. I seem to recall the other way around as well. To this day Ive kept my liking for Celtic even though there are a couple of things about celtic that bother me, most notably your YNWA for its liverpool implications
I know that some of my fellow united fans have been complete and utter twats towards some visiting celtic fans and Im deeply ashamed of that, but I found it sad that nowadays most celtic fans I read or talk to absolutely have come to despise United or even worst prefer the scouse over us. I wonder whats the general feeling amongst celtic fans towards united at present day. I'm not looking for sympathy but for honesty so be brutally sincere if necessary.
Oh and this is my introduction, nice to be in this forum and hopefully Ill visit CP for the away CL game.

Why do you stick us with liverpool because of YNWA, what about all the clubs in ingerland that sing the old "We are the famous CFC" so all the clubs what sing that song that are CFC have implications ? I hate liverpool. Welcome to the forum :D

I like Manchester United for the brand of football they play and have done since Cole, Yorke, Sheringham and Solksjaer all vied for the 2 spots up front.
Any historical contempt i choose to disregard, far too much of that sort of stuff goes on in football. -

I didn't have an preference to either Man U or Liverpool until I met a (Red) scouser who was also a big Celtic fan while away travelling in Australia who swayed me to Liverpool. I would now call them my 2nd team.
In contrast i've spoken to many United supporters and read views on forums slating us as SPL garbage. A typically arrogant English view of Scottish Football and one which I would expect to hear from the likes of Middlesborough and Blackburn fans who's supporters live in a Premiership bubble and are clueless about other football matters.
Thanks for the welcomes lads
fair enough.
We have many ignorants amid our ranks when it comes to scottish football, and certainly Ive met more than a fair share of scousers who would share the same view with those clueless United supporters, so its not only a United thing.
I do agree that generally speaking United fans are more arrogant than scousers, in the same way that scousers were more arrogant than united fans back in the 70s and 80s. Also United and manchester people in general are more cynical than scousers, less tactful/diplomatic and less for making friendships with other set of fans. Thats why our public image is terrible, we lack the public relations the scouse have, which I admit, its excelllent.
We cannot help it as United fans to cringe every time we hear the YNWA song, even if it isnt by liverpool fans, we always relate it to them, plus they're always making a big fuss about it and how they were the first to sing it.
I can't argue with you mate - at the end of the day, I take a huge interest in English football more from a spectator point of view than from following a certain club. I love the Premiership.
Although I do see Liverpool as my English team, I would rather see Man Utd win the league over the likes of Chelsea - i doubt many actual Liverpool fans would share that view.
Welcome Duncan.
I don't like Liverpool FC tbh. I don't mind MUFC, it's Ferguson I dislike, but he is a great manager. Look what he did at Aberdeen.
For English teams I like Newcastle and then Everton really, mainly due to good friends I've got wh suport those clubs.
But I don't have to much of a problem with Man U. Excpet that they're loaded. And I'm jealous.:celt_2:

Dont mind united at all
In response to the thread title - don't take it personally that Rangers hate you - They don't have much love for anybody hence the line from one of their favourite songs..
"NO ONE LIKES US, WE DON'T CARE" (Also shared by Chelsea and Millwall)
They certainly underlined that back in May when they tore Manchester to shreds!

Man Utd for me for the way they play football! Liverpool and Chelsea bore me to tears.
The only team I dont like in England is chelsea, have no problems with other teams unless they give me a reason to dislike them.
I did see alot of poor messages on united forums reguarding celtic and the spl but I also saw a lot of good ones and I wouldnt judge a club by comments on an internet forum. This year will be the first year I go to old trafford for a game so this will be the basis of my judgement on the club. Cant wait should be a cracking game and btw Welcome Duncan
To be honest mate I don’t think their is a hatred towards Utd from Celtic fans. That pleasure is only afforded to one club, Rangers. Of course their is a dislike for certain other clubs mostly born out of disrespect at sometime or another, that has come from a particular club towards Celtic or the fans.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

From my recollection that has never happened between Utd and Celtic and from my point of view Celtic and our fans generally respect every club, none more so than Utd. A club with immense history like ours and a footalling philosophy that is similar to our own. In essence we like to play the game as it should be played with attacking flair and entertainment.

Were the confusion comes in, is their is also a mutual respect between Celtic and Liverpool for exactly the same reasons as above. Utd hate scoucers but that doesn’t mean Celtic have too also. I think Celtic, Utd and Liverpool fans sometimes confuse that aspect of our relationships which has made some fans pick and choose a side.

Anyhow IMO respect breeds respect and as I said I think that is something Utd and Celtic have always had towards each other. I don’t see that changing anytime soon if ever at all.
BTW welcome to the site mate.:bbpd:

I'm a Celtic supporter and I don't really pay that much attention to the English game.
My Dad, along with Celtic, supported Liverpool so through that I've grown to support them too.
I do like watching Man U play though and I know a few friends in Manchester who support Man U. Lovely people.:50:
Looking forward to the CL matches too.
Not really into english football myself but without doubt man u are the best team in that league, they play great football and so much talent at the club only real hatred for an english team for me is chelsea, man u are ok in my books, and welcome mate. :50:

welcome on board,
i think itS due to the simple fact that utd and lfc play in the higher ranks of the epl constant ( europe also ), natural rivalary.
but both cityS have strong scottish/irish communities. whilst living in ireland a few yrs back, it was like everybody i met had sympathy/love for celtic and their 2nd teams was either utd or lfc...rarely a blackburn, villa or other team supporter. that was how i experienced it. for me personaly, i donT mind booth of them.:bbpd:
better than chelski or spurs anyhow...:icon_mrgreen:
great post, you really hit the nail on the head
I hope you all are welcomed at Old Trafford the same warm and friendly way you've always welcomed united fans when we've traveled to Glasgow, and the same way you're famous for all over the world. Cannot say that i'm divided because I want United to win twice but it wouldnt be so painful if we had to lose against you (but of course * the rest of teams). In fairness I think its going to be a more difficult group than more united fans imagine.
again thanks for the welcome and Im surprised at how favorable your comments are towards united. Have to say you maybe think that there are few united fans who support Celtic, but youd be wrong. Go to redcafe and there are a fair share of mancs who love Celtic and hate the huns. I'm not saying 100%, not even close to that, we're a diverse bunch, but I can tell you that for every rangers fan that you can find me in manchester there must be at least 10 celtic fans.

Welcome mate.
There has always been an affiliation between Man U and Celtic, the Irish connection being the main factor.
In years gone by, most British cities' big teams were regarded as having either Irish/Catholic or British Empire/Protestant leanings:
Glasgow; Celtic & Rangers
Edinburgh; Hibernian & Hearts
Dundee; Dundee United & Dundee
Manchester; Manchester United & Manchester City
Liverpool; Everton & Liverpool

i agree completely liverpool have a massive protestant/loyalist following i hate the fact that we get catergoised with liverpool they are orange b*st*rds man united and everton are our teams
