Before I start, this is not aimed at people who make rational and at times justified criticism of our manager. It is aimed at those who seem to have an irrational, almost pathological hatred of him. The same people who completely ignore the fact that on too many occasions this season our goalie has sold the jerseys.
I can only describe these people as bigots.
Simple as. Strachan is not 'one of them', never was, never will be, but Boruc makes a song and dance about being a catholic, so that appeals to the knuckledraggers and cuts him a lot of slack. We love to portray our club as being above all the * spouted by huns on their vile websites, how we hold the moral high ground. I don't believe that anymore.
I've asked questions in another thread but I'll open them up to everyone...
Why does Artur Boruc have a bottomless pit of goodwill from fans no matter how crap he plays? He chucks in goals against Rangers and Hibs and drops countless other clangers this season, but the fans continue to sing his name.
Could it be because he 'blessed himself at Ibrox and the huns went off their nut'?
Why is this goodwill not extended to our manager?
Why is Roy Keane immediately quoted as a potential Celtic manager when he's just admitted failure at a lesser club?
Aaaaah I hear you cry, Artur has saved us on many occasions! And? Strachan seems to be judged on a game by game basis, so why not the players?
Boruc cost us the points at Hibs but got a standing ovation at the next game, Strachan lost one game after a 12 game winning streak, then some fans wanted him sacked!

Excellent post. As you say, I can understand those who criticise with coherent arguments and reasoning, but sadly with some it seems to be pathological. And not dislike. It's hatred alright.

Gordon Strachan has backed Arthur Boruc to the hilt, is he a bigot?
most fans i know whether they like GS or not, admit Boruc's form has dipped, the worry is that we all agree M Brown isn't able to step up to this level.
Another uncomfortable truth is that attendances are dropping. -
I 'd like to echo what Greendave says about this patholiogical hatred of Gordon Strachan - and I really don't understand it at all. He's done a great job given the severe financial limitations.
As a player I hated the wee nyaff when he played against us, or when he'd mouth off to get people booked against other teams - but I loved him for Scotland. I remember noticing his good work in England and I was a wee bit surprised at the choice as Celtic manager - precisely because he was pèrhaps the most hated player ever to go to CP for a number of years. Having said that, I knew there would be a little animosity from my own generation and older but I'm astounded at the attitudes from many of the younger WGSGTF Brigade. It's the viciousness and level of 'illogic' that no matter what he does he'll get it from them. Some in particular rarely give any type of argument and only come out from under the stones at the slightest hiccup.
MON never got that treatment.
Even putting things in user-friendly comparisons against spending, success etc coupled with finance, some of these people still refuse to see any good in the man, and St Martin will always be beatified no matter what. I thought MON was great tbh, but again, he was very very lucky in having Lubo, HEnke and a few others that are just hard to find nowadays. And a very different financial situation and environment.
He also came after a lean period and took us upwards. WGS came after arguably our best period in over 20 years, so improving on that was never going to be easy.
Even so, it's the WGS GTF campaign that really puzzles me. _No arguments or substance. Just 'WGS GTF'. End of.
I am truly puzzled by this hate campaign, and its complete lack of sense. -

i must say, strongly that ive NEVER EVER thought any celtic fan has a" irrational, almost pathological hatred of him" him being strachan
saying" irrational, almost pathological hatred of him" is a bit much saying "bigot" is worse,
i like strachan but dont like the way the team is playing ,i think the team is getting worse year in year out, does that make me ,"pathological or a bigot" defo not,
unbelivable -

Knickers. I dislike (not hate) Strachan's tenure as celtic boss due to the poor quality of football on show. Yes, I'll admit, the league titles, I celebrated like anyone else, but that's temporary, especially when you've paid top dollar to sit in the freezing cold to watch ill motivated lackeys struggle to raise as much as a smile. I'm bored out of my mind half the time, not my type of football, and not the type of football I associate with celtic.
Where do people get off telling me why and how I believe something? How the * does anyone know my reasonings? I'm not even old enough to remember Strachan playing against us, have never attended anything that could remotely be considered 'Republican', and widely support the clubs stance on unacceptable chants, so you can scrub the Boruc analogy as well.
I'm fed up of slow play, rigid tactics, a mute captain, a zonal marking system, possession football, no left back, a left footer on the right, a right footer on the left, poor team mentality, lack of balls, inability to cope with players running at us, the entire team * themselves at Ibrox and away in Europe, no link up play between front men, stupid long balls up the park, lies told in press interviews about our 'great performances' despite them being drivel, and * all being done about any of them despite approaching four years in charge.
And * ALL to do with anything else. -
GD what your saying about people being way to harsh on Strachan, considering the success he's brought to our club, is absolutely spot on. It's embarrassing at times.
But the comparison with that and the Boruc situation is wide of the mark, if understandable that you might make that comparison.
If you take a look at the aftermath of the Hibs game on this very site, i don't know for sure but am fairly confident you wouldn't find a single member sticking up for Boruc. In fact in my eyes the overall opinion of the man has dropped significantly over the season so far.
Your right about there being a special interest in the big man for his previous exploits against the huns etc. and people do give him a bit of space because of some of the performances he's given us over the years. But i fail to see what the problem is with any of these points. The guy has, in my opinion, earned the right to go through a sticky patch and be allowed to play his way through it with the backing of the fans.
So the statement about there being 'a bottomless pit of goodwill from fans no matter how crap he plays' is nonsense if you ask me. -
i can feel them thinking now,,lolLast edited by a moderator: Dec 17, 2008
