How does FFP work? I take it you can spend as much as you want in fees as long as you stay inside a certain wage cap? I just can’t see how Chelsea can be doing that.

 

Trossard for £21M is a steal, quality player.

He’s a special player I think mate but in general that’s why we need guys who leave us to do well, and for us to be consistently in the CL and performing at that level. Only then will we be able to demand top money.

Van Dijk doing what he has, is the only reason when * came calling for Dembele and Tierney we could demand that much.

When it’s been proven paying us good money, for a top talent is worth it for 15 year odd (we’re about 8 in I think) then we can do what Ajax do, what Benfica and Porto do.

And we need other teams in the league to demand good money as well, Aberdeen with Calvin Ramsey was a great start with others clocking on. They tried it with McKenna when Villa offered £7m and it backfired, I didn’t think they’d do it again. It worked with him though, we need others to do it.

As much as I hated seeing them get £25m for Bassey, it helps building up the league as one that’s not a bargain basement.

Only need to look at how we have exploited the J League to show how demanding good money for the best players in the league is important.

 

Bassey has been shat on by pretty much every Dutch pundit. Signings like him won't benefit us, they will make them more wary of us if anything unless he improves greatly. I don't think Edouard has done us any favours either really.

 

True as well if he doesn’t improve at all. But the general point still stands I think.

 

Chelsea signing players on 7 year deals and longer.
They are doing this to get round FFP rules. they can split the fee over that time period even though the longest allowed is 5 years.
Should make every buying club pay the total fee up front.
That would curb the extortionate prices paid.

 

There isn't a rule currently on the longest allowed, UEFA are implementing one though as they know what Chelsea are doing. It comes into force in the summer but they can't do it retrospectively so Chelsea have gotten away with it.

 

Very very smart, only reason all the other mega rich clubs will be angry about this is cos they haven’t thought of it themselves. However chelsea will be * if any of those guys end up being flops, 200k a week for 7 years on the bench

 

They may not be able to do it retrospectively but can’t say that any currently running contract that is part of a contract that started more than 5 years ago is immediately invalid

 

Harry souttar, plays a few good games in wc, been out for ages with an injury, plays for * in efl and is now touted for £15m move.
