Tennis itself is becoming a Joke in it's Reaction to Putin's War!!

 

PS I have loved Tennis all my life, but the A.T.P is A Disgrace as have the reactions of many a Player to the War in Ukraine. Wimbledon did the right and morale thing so .uck you the rest of Tennis, Murray, Nadal, Djokovic etc etc etc
I have been on a sizable Group Chat about Tennis for many a year and we are all in agreement about this * A.T.P Attitude. It is a beyond a disgrace!!!

 

That's exactly how I feel about discriminating players based on their nationality.

I understand that you have strong feelings about the war in Ukraine mate. Most of us do but what good does the Wimbledon ban do? Do you honestly think that Putin gives a * whether Medvedev for example plays at Wimbledon? Tarring all people of a particular nationality with the same brush is never a good idea.

 

This Evil Regime in Russia must be as Hit as Hard as Possible!!! In Every way to Help Decent Russians Overthrow it!!
The A.T.P has been beyond a disgrace to this and a good number of Players!

 

The ATP’s role is to protect its members interests. Some of its members have been banned from playing and earning based purely on their nationality. Accepting this, no matter what the circumstances, can’t be the right thing to do.
I’m completely against what Putin has done in Ukraine but also against punishing innocent sports people for the actions of their government.

 

The Situation in Ukraine created by The Evil Regime in Russia goes beyond Sport. Sport
Does not matter as an excuse either way.
While This Regime in Russia exists Russia should receive Nothing outside it’s borders As such.
This gives the Good Russian
people who have been overlooked heavily by the Tennis * a bit more while they try and get rid of of pure Evil.
This is the closest to a full Nuclear War we have ever been outside the Maths Pen .uck Up In 83.

Sportspeople should not be punished based on the actions of one man who they have no connection to, other than the fact they were born within the same borders. It's an utter farce and something the players should be challenging legally if at all possible.

Medvedev being banned from playing a tennis tournament isn't going to suddenly make Putin remove his forces from Ukraine. Putin doesn't give a *.

Wimbledon has been stripped of its ranking points in response to the ban of Russian & Belarusian players. This effectively turns the biggest tournament in the sport into an exhibition event. Players may now skip it if they’re unable to gain points or defend their points from last season’s Wimbledon if they played it. In my opinion this highlights how poor a decision the AELTC and LTA have made in banning players based on nationality. A terrible outcome but I’m fully with the ATP on this.

 

Why mate? The war has nothing to do with the Russian or Belarusian tennis players. Banning them won’t resolve anything.
I would hate to be banned from doing my job and earning because of something Boris did.
It’s unfair discrimination.

I honestly don’t get it though.
I have every sympathy with the Ukrainian people and support any condemnation of the Russian government.
Tennis players aren’t killing anybody as far as I know. They might even feel the same about the war as we do.
Let the tennis players play tennis and let the politicians try to deal with Putin.

 

I too respect the difference of opinion @The Prof but I can't agree with it at all. I don't think calling it discrimination is wrong, because they're being punished for their nationality and nothing else. I think you're probably right in that there's likely been pressure from Westminster.

Is applauding an innocent Russian/Belarusian player at Wimbledon any worse than our own fans applauding Abada or Bitton? The players are representing themselves as individuals and that's why on this particular issue I don't feel it's right to punish them.

 

Celtic wouldn't have been allowed to go to Seville in 2003 if the same logic had been applied...Abada wouldn't be playing for us right now because club's and individuals should be punished for the actions of their government right?

 

I have followed Tennis for decades Big time and for more than a Good while I have been part of a Private Tennis Chat Group, a good mixture of people, 192 of us in all, and it has caused quite a lot of debate to say the least. I would say a good 60 or so % would agree with your Post.
Everybody has a right of course in here to give an opinion, and my opinion is the A.T.P are a disgrace. Also in my opinion The US Open will do the same as Wimbledon if the situation in Ukraine does not change.
This is not like the bulk of Wars in modern times, hence the way the Footballing bodies have reacted, think about it!!

 

The ATP have a responsibility to look after their players though, and that’s what they’re doing @cidermaster
