the signing equation.
there was a time when you signed a player it was too strengthen the team.
and the player was included right away into the first eleven
nowadays it seems we sign players to strengthen the squad. and then they fail to break into the first eleven.
for the money we paid for bangura i thought he'd be an automatic first choice.
wanyama came with the reputation of being adaptable and could play at the back, yet when our centre of defence is crying out for being freshened up wanyama remains picking skelfs out of his *.

We're still going through a rebuild and there's no way any player should be an automatic first pick. £6 million player possibly. But 2? Nah. -
I think what we do mainly now is sign "one for the future" youngsters....I'm beginning to wonder if Lennoxtown is also a kindergarten.
-
fair point...but the next time we sign a player for 6 mill they'll ride up kerrydale street on a unicorn

I'm not sure the logic is correct here.
Take the end of last season when our strongest XI was:
Stokes Hooper
Commons Kayal Ledley Brown
Izaguirre Mulgrew Maj Wilson
Forster
Assuming Foster signed on for another year (which he eventually did)
Are you suggesting we sign nobody unless they directly replace someone in the squad? If we wanted a striker we would HAVE to drop Stokes/Hooper? If we wanted a midfielder, you'd have some job replacing one of those 4 - and that's without Forrest and Ki in the equation.
There's no way a modern club can operate like that. -
-
the logic stems from last seasons team failing to win the title....so it needed strengthening.....players will always leave and new heroes are born......who'd have thought we'd find a replacement for pierre....mr larsson comes along and ye almost forget pierre who. pierre was a * off the park...but was a class act on the field for us. mr larsson eclipsed him 20 times over.

the fans were down when Dalglish, nicholas, mcclair, di canio, viduka, van hooijdoonk all left. they were replaced and the club moved on.
i dont think for one minute that stokes and hooper are our long term answer. i just wish we'd sign players who are ready to go into the first eleven and improve us.....after losing 3 titles on the spin our need is immediate....not for the future. -
-
even if we go out and buy five first 11 players (we did last year) what happens the year after that when the coffers are completely empty? you have to build a balanced squad and "one's for the future" are part of that. -
i'm all for building for the future.....it makes perfect sense.....but i also believe in addressing the current situation......currently we're the * out of a two horse race. and that means our current first team aint good enough. ( if in doubt look at the threads regarding our current defence ). we have lost the last three titles.....so for me that needs sorted quicker than what may occur five years down the line. and i've been hearing we signed him for the future since strachan signed evander sno.....and that worked out well.

Surely the arguement is you need to pay for quality, while quantity can be free or come in the form of loan signings.
Let's not forget that we still have to pay for " Loan Signings " or for " Frees " in terms of their weekly wages, but when your paying ten wages instead of three it has exactly the same effect on your outgoings financially, yet it might not be paying it's way on the park.
As much as I have to admit it I think this policy has served the Huns well over the past three seasons, players such as Jelavic, Davis, Mac Gregor, Bougherra all served them well while they were in crisis. These guys stood up when it counted, yes I hated every minute, but the SPL title count doesn't lie.
We need to strengthen the current team by finally sorting out the centre back position in January, their performances in our last two matches have once again proved none of them are really good enough or consistent enough.
We look good enough in the midfield if Neil Lennon selects the correct line-up, but I still feel we only have two strikers, Hooper & Stokes. It simple, if Neil Lennon continues to favour Samaras over Stokes in the big matches I honestly think he'll get Neil Lennon the sack !!!
