Would have to pay both Ascoli and Sampadoria considerable sums, don't see him moving to us.

Appiah is the business! Had a fanatstic world cup wi Ghana, probably their best player at it (yes, he was better than Essien IMO). Vastly experienced, good passer, solid in the tackle. Basicly the shiznit! Hope it goes through. :50:

PS. I still have hope for Tommy G too. :fear:

    Profile

Stephen Appiah is more than just Ghana’s captain. He is the heartbeat of their side and was the driving force behind a team that achieved a long-held ambition by qualifying for the FIFA World Cup™ finals for the first time. A combative player who boasts an extraordinary work rate and impressive tactical discipline, the 26-year-old led by example with some imperious midfield displays in qualifying, doing much to ensure the Black Stars came from behind in their group to book a place in Germany.
He is no stranger to international competition, having appeared in three world championships at junior level during his teens – and produced performances that persuaded the Ghanaian football hierarchy to hand him his senior debut when he was still 16.
In 1995 Appiah returned from the FIFA U-17 World Championship with a winner’s medal, although, as the youngest member of the team, he played in only one of their matches. That did not concern Udinese, however. They had already seen more than enough to convince them of the youngster’s potential and, in 1997, they took the then 17-year-old to Italy.
It was during his three-year stint with Udinese that Appiah was converted from a striker to a bustling midfield general as the Serie A club groomed him for greatness. An injury sustained at the FIFA World Youth Championship in Malaysia briefly halted his progress but, before long, Appiah was making his full debut for Udinese against Lecce in February 1998 and he would play a further ten times before the season was out.
The midfielder, who helped Ghana reach the last eight of the FIFA World Youth Championship in 1999, was by now firmly established in Udinese’s senior squad and, following two more seasons of sustained progress Parma stepped in with a multi-million pound bid. The transfer was in the balance for a while when Appiah suffered a bout of viral hepatitis but he recovered quickly to become part of a strong Parma squad challenging regularly in the latter stages of UEFA club competitions. Moreover, he was now firmly established among Africa’s highest-profile stars.
Appiah found himself unable to hold down a steady first-team berth at Parma and he was eventually deemed surplus to requirements and sent on loan to Brescia. For the Ghanaian, it proved a change for the better as he scored seven times in 31 appearances during the 2002/03 season to earn himself rave reviews from Italy’s sports writers – and a move to the Stadio Delle Alpi.
For Juventus, a fee of six million euros seemed a small price to play for a midfielder of such talent and, for the player himself, the chance to move to the Old Lady of Italian football represented a dream come true. Again, competition for places was intense, but Appiah was by now a more accomplished and better-rounded player and, in his second season in Turin, he helped Juventus to the Scudetto, playing 18 times and joining an elite band of Africans to have won Italian football’s top domestic prize.
These days, the Ghana captain is playing his football in Turkey having been sold in the summer of 2005 to Fenerbahce, for whom he has quickly become a major player, and he will travel to Germany confident of ensuring that the Black Stars’ debut in the competition proves to be a memorable one.
