Tierney coming through, loan deals for young players with a view to their development, the work he's put in with players like Griffiths, getting Bitton tied down on a long contract, Janko looks another promising youngster, getting Forrest fit...

The defence is a shambles, you won't get anyone arguing with you about that.

    Not good enough.

If Deila came out now and said he's ditching the 4-2-3-1 formation, and would be adapting on a game to game basis. If he actually switched formation during a game in a meaningful way, not just a desperate plaster over a wound, or a random, bizarre change. If he changed players at the appropriate times. If he could get defenders to stay back and defend, and pick up their marks at setpieces.

Too many ifs, and not much/any signs he's getting the message. His philosophy is good, but we're not some project for him to learn his trade on. He needs to be under a more experienced manager/director of football for a bit. He's good enough for us in Scotland, but not europe, where tactics need to be changed in a heartbeat, and an opponents single player can undo any plan.

When does a "clear strategy" stop being enough, Paul?

We all know what Deila is trying to do and it's wonderful in theory, but we haven't looked like we are on track for that strategy to come to fruition. In what way shape or form are our last 2 European performances acceptable? We are an absolute shambles and Deila has been at the helm for a year and a half now.

A must after tonight is, We definitely need a new defence coach. Kennedy was most likely given it of how his career ended. A attacking coach would also be good as we seem to have chances we don't put away.

Remember when Strachan's team starting playing balls along the middle of the park, even though he was sucessfull the fans soon demanded more. We just want some imagination.

All good, without doubt. But is it enough? Can we give him 2 more years when we're only hoping he learns from his mistakes and sorts them. can we afford to miss out on the CL money/status much longer if we want to progress?

I don't question his coaching, it's his team management that gas me worried. It seems very poor...

I would take Strachan back in minute.

Was just talking to my bhoy about who could come in and steady the ship.

Strachan is the one guy that could come in and do a job on this * budget we have just now.

It stops being enough when we stop winning trophies whilst getting better.

    That hasn't happened with Deila.

or MON. Much is made of all the money he spent with us but he has taken a pretty poor bunch of international players and taken 4 points off the world champions.

So you think we are getting better?

You're also implying that it's ok to be this * in Europe as long as we are winning trophies domestically? Is that right?

He did say he signed Cole so we could play two up front. He said Ciftci and Griffiths can't play that way? So it is a sign he's thinking about different ideas. You're right though, in play tactics are a big test. Mind you not a lot of managers can do that. Top managers rely on top players a lot. Can anyone think of classic in game changes to formation a manager has made? I used to know some but can't remember. Dunno if Fergie bringing on Solskaer and Sheringham counts? Pep playing 3 5 2 against Messi Suarez Neymar was funny :icon_mrgreen:

That's a good point mate. I was just thinking of their Celtic careers.

I think there are signs all over that we are getting better and there is scope to get even better again, aye.

I didn't think Ajax or Fenerbahce was * so that's opinions. I think some people are reacting to Molde because they are 'Molde' not the best team in our Group. Which they have proven themselves to be.

I've been one of the worst for blaming Kennedy and TBH I still don't rate him but he's clearly not the problem.

I think you could be right but the fans wouldn't like it. His style of football would be pragmatic. He wouldn't play Griffiths for a start :smiley-laughing002:
