There is enough in Tolkiens mythology for hundreds upon hundreds of films.

I am aware of that, and it's in actual fact a prequel. A lot of the material is unsuited for the big screen. That, combined with the fact that Jackson has decided to film it with cameras that will render it looking * (hence preview responses being to it looking like a 'tv movie') because most cinemas don't have updated enough screens to support it.

I hope so. Going to be nigh on impossible seeing it in the first week, though!

    Aye, I know.

There's so much history to JRR Tolkien's work though that you could make as many movies as you want.

I hope they try and take on The Silmarillion which many think is unfilmablr due to its epicness.

Cannot wait for The Hobbit! But it has to be said, I think WETA effects are shocking especially when compared to fx companies like Dreamworks and Industrial Light and Magic. Judging from preview clips and early reviews, the effects don't seem that much improved from the LOTR.

The film currently holds a rating of 73% on rotten tomatoes and a score of 62/100 on metacritic. Sounds very * average.

I never listen to critics or people who have seen the film before it comes out officially. Different people like different things and i certainly won't get put off by people who make a living off slating films.

Exactly, I feel as though there will inevitably be bad reviews from people who have gone in pre-determined that they won't like it because of the bad press surrounding the 48fps film and the fact that he's extended one book into a trilogy. I really wasn't too bothered about it until I saw the trailer but now I'm quite looking forward to it.

Do you think the number of negative reviews is because of those reasons? Or maybe it just isnt that good? If anything the the hobbit will be overrated because people will be blinded by their love for LOTR

This quote from David Mitchell pretty much exactly sums up the way I feel about all things Lord of the Rings.

'I wasn’t a Tolkien fan. I spent the best part of a year trying to get through The Lord of the Rings, finally grinding to a halt halfway through The Two Towers. I don’t know why there are adults who treat its tedious daftness with such awed solemnity. That just makes it less fun. And it’s zero fun to start with. Even something that is a tiny bit fun, like pressing the button to make an electric garage door go up, is infinitely more fun than the endless moaning of a jewellery-obsessed, hairy-footed midget.'
