As I said, "I hope Burns does the RIGHT thing, and gives him a rematch." I didn't say anything about the most financially sound thing, although I would expect a rematch against Bertrand to be a very good option.

That's how the game goes? There are practically only 2 ways that you can ever get a rematch in any fight:
    1. Closely fought fight that could have gone either way
    2. Contentious decision

I'm aware he has no obligation to Beltran, but he absolutely will want to step up and show the boxing world that he's not the soft-touch, protected home fighter that he's quickly getting a reputation as.

see this kinda crap * me off i was at the fight and yes i think beltran might have edged but a lopsided points win is absurd i re watched it at home today and the early rounds went to burns before he was floored he was up on the score cards even jim watt had him up then he got floored thats when fight turned on its head and fair play to him he managed to get the last two rounds so i think some people need to show burns respect aswell takes guts and heart to fight on way he did after suffering broken jaw in the second as for his trainer he a fat * and should be changed two fights in a row hes let ricky down game plan wise if it wasnt for rickys spirit he would have lost his belt

Burns was poor last night, Didn't look like he had the boxing skills of a world champion. He certainly has the heart of one though.

You lost all credibility the second I read "even Jim Watt had him up." :56:

No one is doubting Burns' heart and courage, not one single person, so I don't know why you're throwing a hissy fit over this perceived disrespect. :87:

You would think the way people go on about the broken jaw though, that Burns fell on his way into the ring and broke it or something. His opponent broke it.

I'm as big a Burns fan as you'll find on this forum, but I call a spade a spade when it comes to boxing. He got a gift last night.

    Off course he does :smiley-laughing002:

You're coming across like an England fan who thinks they're going to win the World Cup because Ian Wright says so. :smiley-laughing002:

Was this the same Jim Watt who said at the end, when the scores were announced, that "sometimes I dont like this business". Clearly meaning that he knew Burns got away with it.

if you read the post half way through the fight jim watt had burns up on the score cards by a round then burns got floored my whole argument is it wasnt a lopsided points win

Nevertheless, Burns was lucky to draw. Beltran was robbed.

Havent read all the thread, but i did notice they were discussing who was Scotlands best ever champ prior to the fight, and made mention of this being Burns' 9th title fight, along with that of Harrison...............for the record, neither could lace Jim Watts boots, and he couldnt lace Buchanans!

edit, dont know enough about Benny Lynch.

Luck had nothing to do with it

The judge that gave it as a draw should never judge another fight again, Ortiz should never be allowed near a ring again! 115-112 to Burns!?!?!

Beltran responded like a true pro, its a disgrace that someone who worked that hard for something gets * over by the system :54:

It's just a pity that Jim Watt didn't exit the sport for good when he retired from the ring, as he's easily the worst commentator out there. I've never heard a more negative, moaning-faced character in my life.

As for Burns, he's tweeted that Beltran should get a rematch, but in the end it'll be down to the WBO to decide, won't it?

If I was him I'd ditch the 135lbs title and move up. It's been reported that making the weight is proving difficult for him, and aside from a bout with Vazquez or Broner there really isn't anything there for him.

A mandatory against an unbeaten and relatively unknown US fighter in Crawford? A rematch against Beltran?

If and when he comes back he really needs to look at what he wants to do. He's 30 years old, has fought almost forty times over a career spanning over twelve years, and his jaw isn't what it was obviously.

He should be looking for some big money fights, and there really aren't any at 135lbs apart from Vazquez or Broner, and I don't see either of them happening.

Make the jump to light-welter and you have the likes of Zab Judah, Lamont Peterson and even Amir Khan to look at.

Khan vs Burns would be huge in the UK.

I think it's safe to say, that Burns knows himself that he has been on the receiving end of a very fortunate result on Saturday. Fair play to him for saying that Beltran deserves a rematch. I liked Burns prior to what happened on Saturday, but his comments today have made him go up even further in my estimations.

It's a pro-am charity event, I severely doubt it but may be wrong.
