Ricky Hatton will be granted a new boxing licence providing he successfully completes all parts of a medical, the British Boxing Board of Control confirmed on Thursday.

The former two-weight world champion, who turns 34 next month, retired three years ago but is set to relaunch his career at a press conference in Manchester.

Hatton, who has been crowned both light-welterweight and welterweight champion, attended a BBBoC meeting on Wednesday after shedding almost three stones in training this year.

BBBoC General Secretary Robert Smith said: 'He [Hatton] came before the board yesterday. I'm not a doctor but once we get the medicals in our doctors will look at them. If they are fine they will be signed off. That's all we're waiting for.

'He's been granted it [the licence] pending his medical - so subject to the completion of all his medicals.

'We've got some parts of it but there are a few parts to a medical. We have received some of it but we are just waiting for the rest of it and when we get the rest of it, I presume at the beginning of next week, we'll put it all together and our doctors will consider it.'

Hatton was the subject of allegations of cocaine abuse two years ago but Smith says the Manchester-based boxer has cleaned up his act.

'He was very frank,' Smith said. 'He admitted things he had done wrong and was looking to put it behind him. He looked very well and spoke very well and is entitled to another opportunity, pending his medicals.'

Hatton's last bout was a brutal second-round knockout by Manny Pacquiao in May 2009 and he has since established his own promotions company which ran into problems in May when he lost his television deal with Sky.

For his comeback fight, it is likely the undercard would feature a majority of Hatton Promotions boxers, including Martin Murray, Anthony Crolla, Rendall Munroe.

Hatton, yet another hyped-up English boxer that was found out as soon as he took on a decent fight (hello Amir, hello Naz :bbpd:).

Like that other waste of space Haye, he has obviously ran out of money and got bored, will have a few 'comeback wins' against cannon-fodder numpties, then get knocked out when he gets a decent fighter.

Anyone that disagrees, I am happy to re-quote this post in 2014 when it happens.

I'm not a fan of Hatton really....too many body shots and he's a sore loser....good fighter but not one of the best.

    Talk * boi!

Pacquiao and Mayweather are more than decent. They'll both go down as legends of the game. No shame in losing to them fs:56: Ricky hatton was a good boxer. You've got to be good to beat the like of Kostya Tszyu , Loius Collazo.

Prince Nazeem, again, was beating once and only by the best in Barrera. Naz was one of the most entertaining fighters in the history of the sport who had tremendous power for a featherweight and had amazing cat reflexes. Beating Manuel Medina, Tom Johnson, Kevin Kelly and unified his division in the 90s.

Hatton was a decent fighter he was a world champion at 2 weights before he lost to Mayweather and Pacquiao there is no shame in loosing to these guys most people do. And as for the body shot it is very effective For me Hatton is good at the body shot he is able to tell the effectiveness his body shots are having on his opponent and he piles the pressure on with more punches to the body eventually the opponent will drop the elbows and gives more space to hit the head.

I see Khan has split from Freddie Roach.

"Roach then revealed on Friday he had twice rejected overtures from Khan's camp to ditch WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and multiple world champion Pacquiao to concentrate solely on the Bolton-born fighter."

    :56:

That's like he twice received overtures to ditch Hazard and Messi to concentrate solely on Lee Cattermole.

Hatton is rotten mate, he has an almighty hook but little boxing brain and will be found out again, happy to take a wager. :icon_mrgreen:

You're right, there is no shame in losing to those guys, but the simple way Mani took him out said it all, he was caught totally flat footed and made to look silly.

Naz was undoubtedly entertaining, but the way he hung his jaw out was ridiculous and you cannot deny he was fed idiots for years. His fight with Robinson for the WBO title in Wales was his only real win of genuine credit for me, Kevin Kelly was years past his best yet had Naz on his * twice.

    Barrera completely outclassed him.
