The Boxing Thread

  1. He pocketed a very nice little payday for himself, I'm sure it's worth the bruises on both his face and ego.

He'll no doubt resurface again in a year or so, when there is a gap in the market.

I would not be the slightest bit surprised to see Froch V Groves III.

  2. I don't want to see a Froch/Groves III to be honest, it would make no sense considering Froch has won the previous two fights.

Now if Groves had won last night and made it 1-1 in their mini series of fights, then a third match would definitely be on the cards.

  3. I think it will be dictated by the market.

If there's not much else doing at the time, it just takes Groves to come on TV and throw around some trash-talk and people will buy into it, just look at how the shambles of Haye V Chisora snowballed, simply due to the heavyweight division continuing to be so poor.

  4. Could be, but a don't think he will fight De Gale. He said the only thing left to do on his list is to fight in Vegas. Hope he does it next he deserves it.

Naseem was a class act. His entrances were certainly entertaining:smiley-laughing002:

Aye both were very good fights. Agree about De Gale he's faught back well since that defeat to Groves. Never liked De Gale though, just something about him a don't like. Maybe De Gale v Groves next if Froch fights overseas next. Wouldn't mind that again.

*Froch would knock De Gale out aswell

Fs Rossenspeil a see you took a pasting for that "average" comment:smiley-laughing002:

  5. Would love to see Froch V Ward II in Vegas!

  6. Would rather see that fight in the UK. Ward would * it to come here though.

  7. Aye theres no chance of Ward coming to the UK, would love to see the rematch though

  8. Hehe .. I know, my wee skinny ring is like the japanese flag after that. :icon_mrgreen:

  9. Don't think we'll ever see Froch box in the UK again by the sounds of it.

  10. I cant help but be underwhelmed by Froch.
I mean it was a belter of a punch, and i wanted him to win, but his style frustrates me, and i cant help feel he has a world class chin, but medium class skills.

I felt the same with Calzaghe!!!:fear:

Trouble is i grew up watching Hearns, Hagler, Leonard and Duran!

  11. Froch should retire now it will never get bigger or better then what he did on Saturday evening 80,000 at Wembley and winning it with a punch like that I no Kessler wants a rematch with him but that isn't going to happen

  12. If i was froch i'd retire on that high..

If he wants to have one last hurrah in vegas and swerve de gale, then who can argue with that..

He's done it all and deserves the praise and respect he's now getting again..

  13. Swerve De Gale? He would be swerving someone decent and a fight in Vegas in order to fight him.

In terms of legacy he has to want Ward to finish without an avenged loss but I can't see him beating him. That's the fight he should want though.

  14. He should chase the Ward fight. He's on the crest of a wave just now. Given Ward's lack of drawing power outside Oakland, he should really come to the UK where he is a reasonable big name.

If he was to beat Ward..... it changes everything. Makes him a legitimate all time great and one of Britain's best ever. But it would take a monumental effort, and even then I would expect Ward to have too much.

Fight Ward. Fight Kessler (seriously declined, I could see Froch stopping him). And maybe fight Degale in Nottingham to finish it off.

  15. Froch's skills are limited as far as a world class boxer goes. It's the fact that he can win despite his obvious flaws that makes his career so interesting.

Calzaghe on the other hand was very skilled, but didn't have anywhere near the same belief on his own ability as Froch does.

Growing up watching the Fab Four would spoil anyone tbh, but there are a lot of exciting fighters out there today.

  16. Yes swerve that fight, not because he's scared but because it brings nothing to froch, in terms of other big fights he's been involved in and the money side of it, like his very last night.. He has to fight de gale within 140/50 days or something, or vacate his belt..

What he will and quite rightly should do, is go to vegas in 3 month and take on whoever he wants out there, ward would be a great name to avenge in vegas and would be a big fight.. I don't think ward would want to go that route again and i'm not sure aftet there last meeting, carl would.. Can't see that happening, ok it's one fight that he won't have avenged but even still, what career ..
Would he want to have to losses to his name over ward? As i'm sure that'a what would happen happen

  17. Same, think its a big problem in boxing that sometimes there are just no great boxers. So the likes of Froch are hailed the best when in football terms he'd be like an Everton in a League of no Arsenal/Spurs/Liverpool/Chelsea/Man City/Man Us

  18. Difficult comparison. You could probably make a better analogy with individual players.

Froch would be on most people's top 10 pound for pound list. He is no mug by any means and would hold his own in any era.
