The Boxing Thread

  1. Aye but 10 days notice for both fighters. It's no like Eubanks wasn't in training. He was in training to fight at light heavyweight but chose to come down and fight Calzaghe. No really Calzaghe's fault is it?

  2. Pretty dull fight, no real surprise given they are both average boxers.

SKY really can polish up any old jobby to sell pay-per-view subscriptions.

  3. Average:56: Stick to football buddy:56:

Can't say a agree though, the main event was great.

Loved the Mitchell and De Gale fights as well.

  4. thats exactly what would have happened in first fight if it wasnt stopped, except groves probably wouldnt be up and walking after few mins

  5. From memory, I'm pretty sure that's what I had as well when I was watching it.

Is Froch fighting DeGale next then?

:smiley-laughing002: He's such a joker. He was my favourite boxer when I was growing up.

  6. average boxers, you are a * moron who clearly knows nothing about boxing, froch has had a phenomenal career and proved he is up there with the best. His only REAL loss which he was totally outclassed was against ward who is someone who is arguably "mayweather" good.

  7. The mitchell de gale fight was quality. De gale has so much more to come and he's "wised" up a little, no petty childish insults anymore. WOuld like to see him get a shot against froch or a groves rematch, althoug both are unlikely at the moment

  8. Old jobby?

The last 3 fights were anything but..

3 stoppages, knockouts, knock downs, decent to very good action, tactical and cautious to toe to toe..

    What more were people.expecting?

  9. Average boxers :smiley-laughing002:

    Ridiculous comment.

  10. Oh dear .. temper temper.

** average boxers** should have had a question mark after it incidentally.

    Moron.

  11. Hehe. :icon_mrgreen:

I think the 'polish' outweighed the 'substance' if you know what I mean?

SKY's production is unreal and the entrances, atmosphere and build-up were really well done, I just feel if the fight had been mid footie-season the build-up would have been less 'exaggerated'.

Pretty funny Groves making a * of himself after all his bravado right enough.

De Gale fight was indeed a belter. :50:

  12. All about opinions sir, I think in another time they would both be nowhere near a pay-per-view fight.

Boxing used to be a favourite sport of mine, I might just be getting old, but I just find a lack of genuine class fighters through the majority of divisions.

  13. Carl Froch is not average using any barometer you want, including different era's.

In fact he has one of the best chins in any division in any era that has ever boxed.

  14. Ach I dunno, I think he has some talent and admittedly some of my scepticism comes from my apathy towards the whole event, I just think the sport as a whole lacks real characters at the moment.

I did enjoy seeing that wee Chelsea * on his * right enough.

Without doubt Chris Eubank has the best chin I've ever seen, he used to take uppercuts on the chin and just stand there.

It wasn't a question but sweetheart. Also we're on an Internet forum so insulting grammar is pretty petty when we're discussing boxing lol you're just trying to make up for your dim witted statement which proves you're either a part time boxing "fan" or youre just plain clueless

  15. There is simply no way they are near average. By the very definition of the word, they are miles above it. An average boxer would not make an impact at domestic level, never mind compete and win for world titles on multiple occasions.

Could someone like Froch hold his own against the likes of Eubank, Calzaghe, Benn etc? Absolutely. A prime RJJ might be a different matter but that's a different kettle of fish alltogether.

The argument that previous era's were better than the current era has always existed, even back in the era you thought was best there would no doubt be plenty of old-timers who felt those guys couldn't hold a candle to the people they grew up watching. It's just the nature of a sport like boxing that has no definitive measurement system.

And the production quality from Sky was abysmal. :smiley-laughing002:

I regretted placing money on Groves the second I saw him come out on a London bus with sleeve-less fire juggling blokes around him.

  16. *you're

  17. Now now ladies, the main event happened last night in here..

  18. I kinda liked it. :52: :smiley-laughing002:

I think a lot of people bought into Groves' bullshit to be honest, he made himself look pretty silly in the end, it's OK being abrasive and confident if you have the substance to go with it, although he will undoubtedly now be a very rich young man.

As I said, all about opinions. :50:

  19. Very true, money wise he's set for life but career wise, it has set him back..

Big mouthing for months, going to america to.force a re match , saying what punch and round he was finishing froch in, coming in on an open top bus..

Then doing none of what he said and being knocked out with a peach :56:

he must feel embarrassed, big time..
