THE BOARD

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by celtsno1, Sep 1, 2008.

  1. mainland?? Were the mainland. Its the rest that live in a really big island to the south:icon_mrgreen:

  2. the earth is flat actually :icon_mrgreen:

  3. well ive a map of the world and the British Isles is in the middle. And yes it shows the world as a flat rectangle with 'here be sea monsters' in the corners. But I take your point I do wonder if the big island Europa is scouted sometimes. Maybe WGS has traded his Sky Sports package for * channels.

  4. some wee (and bigger) teams amaze me all the time how much quality they get for sooo little money. I don't know the problem at CP, if the scouts are bad (if there are any) or if nobody listens to what they got to say. I dunno. I don't blame WGS, except if he told his scouts to stfu all the time.

  5. He's a right back. Theres loads of decent right backs and Lazio look to have got a snip there.

Left Backs on the other hand..........

  6. he'd be as well signing up for Celtic Tv then, there's hundreds of fannies there.

  7. You don't think there are any bettere LBs out there than Naylor for under £2 mio?

  8. I think when WGS does go (hopefully many years from now) his biography will be interesting. I am sure there is all sorts going on behind the scenes.

  9. I think the same mate. Plus he gets a lot of stick now he doesn't deserve. many people blame him for things which ain't his fault.

  10. Think I'd go out on a limb and say you wouldn't get a better left back for anything less than £3 million.

Then the problem becomes any player worth around the £4/5/6 million mark tend to think they deserve wages of over £30k which we can't afford.

Strachan must have had a list of targets and the board have obviously refused to give him the cash it probably went something like this ....
    end of the season -
Wgs "Right peter heres my list i'd like at least two of them if you would'nt mind ".
    paveluchenko, basa,tamas ,robinson and klasnic.

Lawell after * himself for 20 mins " No problem gordon see you in 3 months"

3 months later at transfer meeting -Lawell "Right gordie i'm back look what i've brought you Mc court-some irish guy who couldn't make it at rochdale but the fans will like him because he's irish.
crosas - some wee boy from barcelona the fans'll love him imagine the headlines CELTS SIGN BARCA STAR .
loovens -some guy rangers wanted the fans'll love him because we got one over on rangers
Wgs-"*'s sake wheres the players i asked for ?"
Lawell "THERE WAS NONE LEFT "
Wgs "what am i going to tell the fans"
Lawell "* the fans i'll tell they morons anything and they'll believe me just like the huns with murray"

  11. I think you are being deluded by the english prices mate. I think Naylor is bad, the weakest link in our defence actually. for example FC Basel bought a good LB for 400 000 €, a Sweden u21 internationalist. there are better LBs in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Holland, France, Germany, Croatia etc etc than Naylor for less than £3 mio.

if not, guess how * football was in general on the left side!

  12. I might sound cynical but I do think the left back position is generally a problem position...

Rangers have Papac and noone else. Man United converted a left winger into left back. Arsenal had to sign Silvestre as backup for Clichy. Other Premiership teams have spent a minimum of £4-5 million on left backs who are pretty average.

I can't really comment outside of the UK but even at the Euros there were no standouts....

  13. I think its justified to be frustrated right now. I don't think the board do a bad job and I too respect that off the back of a humiliating defeat to a pretty average Huns team, everything gets turned up to eleven (spinal tap style).

What I think the board fails to do, and this includes wee Gordy as well, is show us respect at certain points. The summer transfer saga is testament to this. As fans, the transfer window represents a really important and exciting time for the club. Now, plenty of people have defended the board's policy and said 'you don't know what went on, so back off', but my problem is this silence. I respect that the guys at the top want to keep a lid on potential targets and show respect, but what they don't realise is that it causes so much unrest among the fans. All we have to go on is that the board have been tight, haven't went for big targets and have scrimped and saved. It is most likely nothing like this in reality, but the lack of disclosure makes it really hard to swallow. Just * tell us a bit more for crying out loud, * explain why we didn't sign a left back when two of our supposed targets signed for lesser clubs on * LOAN! Gets me all mad n that.

  14. We had two potential targets for LB that we legitimate and both were transfers in the end. Both were a marked improvement in quality on what we currently have, which is nothing. Arsenal can't be struggling otherwise they wouldn't have sold Traore their back-up. Left backs are just as common as every other position. we just didn't get one. why, I don't know, but its annoying. The board shoul do a wee bit of explaining out of respect to us.

  15. no they never :56:

unless your going back 30 odd years, they've always had a proper left back, and Patrice Evra certainly isn't a winger.

  16. Classic stuff pal, you should send that into Channel 4's comedy unit :icon_mrgreen:

  17. Going back 30 years he'd be minus 3 :56:

Nah right enough although starting out as a striker he's always been a left back at Man United. However during his disastrous first season when I mocked the Man Untied boys they assured me it's because he was more of a left winger (where incidentally he can play) although obviously this is not the case.

Not that any of this has much to do with my point that left back generally is a problem position for most teams....
