Rangers, who were once the distant 2nd biggest club in Scotland, are now extinct.

Hearts are therefore the 2nd biggest club in Scotland.

Celtic being the biggest since its inception.

Is this based on the history of the clubs or how good they are now?

The Crew really has no history. Change it with Houston or Seattle.

Both. I tried not to consider just history, otherwise Bologna would be in my list. But also tried not to consider the current moment, or Málagra, for example, would be here.
    Try to mix it.

Yeah, I forgot to include some countries such as Austria and Hungray. But Ferencváros woul surely be the biggest Hungarian team. In Austria I woul put both Rapid and Austria Wien.

Seattle Sounders? Really? Never thought they were big in USA. What about NY Red Bulls, Real Salt Laker and Earthquakers?

Sounders have the best fan base, always in playoffs, go far in CCL, and won 3 straight US Open Cups first team to do so since the 30's.
NYRB Nope they have never won anything
RSL First US Club in the modern CCL to make it to the finals
Earthquakes I can make a case for but they would be 4 or 5 on my list.

Leeds United are a very big club in England. They don't get the recognition they deserve. Bigger than every club in England except Man Utd and Liverpool

Arsenal and Chelsea are bigger than Leeds, and Spurs are at the very least on par with them.

I would agree with Seattle. One of the better sides, average by far the largest crowd in MLS, the only club (except maybe Portland and the Canadian clubs) where they can genuinely say they're one of the most popular sides in the city. As also stated, they won 3 Open Cups in a row (our FA Cup), so the lack of MLS Cup titles shouldn't hurt them. But even then, I think it's only a matter of time over the next 5 years or so when they'll win one - they're one of the best-run organizations in MLS.

To be fair no club in MLS really has any significant history. But I agree with you. No idea why Columbus Crew would be on that list.

Yeah mostly DC and LA have the "history" if you can call it that since the league is less than 20 years old.

I always thought that DC and LA were the clubs with the biggest crowds in USA. Knowing this now I will include Seatle among the others.

Well, at least they are the oldest club, am I right?
I shall replace them for Seatles then.
