legend -
Bertie is a true Celtic Legend, in the tackle he gave no quarter and asked none in return, he was a fantastic play maker too. Celtic through and through.

Bertie Auld grew up in a protestant family. . . he became a Celtic legend, won just about every honour there is to win in club football. No one from a catholis background in Berties day would have ever made the grade at Rangers. He epitimises what makes us better.
Bertie started the famous episode in the tunnell in Lisbon, when the Celtic players belted out the Celtic Song on the way onto the pitch.
He now helps out Wullie O'Neill in Bairds bar from time to time. he a;ways has time for Celtic supporters and he will live on as a Celtic legend forever.
"five therty". . .Top man !!! -
Great character he has and his love for celtic is second to none ,my father oftens speaks about older players and bertie allways gets a mention ,legend of the club.

Great shout Alsybhoy.
i saw Bertie play with Maryhill harp, early 1950 as a full back. He then joined celtic later in the 50s as a winger, early 60s transfered to Birmingham. While in England beleive it or not, he was voted the hardest man in british football by all the other players.
In 65 Big jock brought him back to Celtic and stuck him in the mid dle to partner Booby Murdoch.
This was a master stroke by Jock.
And its good to know that wee Bertie is still there tofday in paradise. A real legend. -

Aye the man's a legend.
Don't know if you's are familiar with it, but a series started on Sky a few weeks ago called "Time of our Lives".
Liverpool in Shankly days and Chelsea early Seventies were the 1st 2 weeks.
This Monday 10pm, it's about Lisbon Lions. Bertie is on along with big Billy and Bobby Lennox. Jeff Stelling presents it. Should be good viewing. -

LEGEND- in the true sense of the word! Met him a few times and simply loves and lives Celtic! What i love about him most currently is his appearances on The Daily Huddle. He`s the only guest not afraid to tell it how it is even if it is anti-establishment which it usually is. You can see presenter cringe as Bertie plays it close to the knuckle - priceless. Hail!Hail!

Sorry had to run off last night to do my hospital duties.
The first thing I noticed about Auld was how small he was, the second was how hard. His first action on the park was to hurt his oponent then he had the run of the wing without to much interference.
Mcgrory and the board could not handle his toughness and attitude and to the dismay of the fans sold him to Birmingham. They actualy done the same to the great Paddy Crerand. * him of cause he took no nonsense from anyone,
While there Bertie won a league cup medal and a runners up medal in what used to be the fairs city cup final.
I will never forget one wednesday night in 1965 in the jungle the teams come out and there was Bertie with the biggest smile he could get on his face, The crowd went mad, I think most of them didn't even know he was back.
As I said before Jock put him in mid field he new we needed someone tough in there. The rest is history.
Funny bit. One night at CP some * hit Bertie on the back with a black pudding, he camly picked it up and walked to the byline, motioning to put it down but he suddenly raised his arm and fired it into the crowd hitting the guy that tossed it right on the head. How he new who it was, the rest of the croud were all pointing him out.
I wish he was in the team now his determination was second to none and his character was only bettered by Tully's.
I know quite a bit about Berties private life as a young lad, but that is not for putting on here. But one thing he always had the best looking girls in glasgow on his arm. where ever he went they would swarm around him. If he was young today Ronaldo and the rest of the nancy boys would be in the queue behind him.
