Carrow Road back in May there, bringing 4,000 supporters down to a small town for a testimonial. That's the Celtic support that I've known and loved for so long and exactly what we're renowned for all over the world.

The noise created here was actually louder than that in the game against Hearts last season when we got the trophy, when you consider the difference in numbers present and the occasion.

I think part of the reason for home games not being as atmospheric as they could be is that psychologically it's harder to co-ordinate that many people to constantly sing at the same time, harder than it should be. Also I feel that for all the good The Green Brigade have done and do, the rest of the crowd are now in a position that they constantly expect them to orchestrate it all and whenever anyone in other parts of the stadium does try and start up anything, it just dies within seconds. Not trying to be pessimistic because the average atmosphere at home games against even the diddy SPL teams - Like the 2nd half against ICT last season was cracking - has improve since WGS's era but it's still an issue and may be emphasised more this season if we're far ahead in the SPL with no challenge and no Champions League football.

I hadn't been at a Celtic v Rangers match for years till someone got me a ticket for the New Year derby match in 2010. The final score was 1-1, it was the match where Skippy score with 10 mins to go and Lee McCulloch equalised a minute later. :31:

The atmosphere was * that day. I was so disappointed. I had been at a New Year derby match back in 1991(Rangers won 3-1 that day) and the atmosphere was absolutely electric. When Tony Mowbray equalised the place just about exploded.

You'll never get atmospheres like that again now that stadiums are all-seater and matches kick-off at stupid o'clock.

Did you watch the 3-0 match on February 20 2011 by any chance?

To be fair, a lot of fans were sickened by the form we were showing under Mowbray throughout 2009 and 2010. Statistically, he is the worst manager we've ever had (yes, worse than Barnes), so you can't really expect the atmosphere to be amazing when there is a pile of * impersonating a Celtic team playing on the pitch.

I did and the atmosphere was great that day. There's nothing like the atmosphere of the old Parkhead though.

It was an "Old Firm" game and it was New Year! We were also still within touching distance of Rangers at that stage. The fans should have been well up for it. I thought it was a poor effort that day, the atmosphere just never got going.

    I disagree with you, OP.
I was at the last Derby match and it was * unreal, probably not as loud as the Feb 011 or Dec 011 but for sheer comedy and entertainment it was the best match i've ever been to.

I and everyone around me sung our hearts out for the first hour, as we battered the huns on and off the pitch and towards the end we were well and truly knackered. Everybody, on and off the pitch, were just casually reflecting on a very long and crazy season, so we literally just sat down and let the huns sing.

They weren't even singing anti-Celtic or bigot songs at the end, just having fun in their own little way with such friendly anthems as GSTQ and 10 German Bombers.

When we did the huddle then they all started doing it was * class, literally everybody was just sarcastically applauding and laughing at them, shouting "wheeeeey, *!"

Not to mention the epic banners, songs and passing the coffin.

I agree the final day of the season was flat though, mainly because it was about minus 10 degrees, * it down and a * hurricane. Worst day to win the league ever, and also we were all knackered just like at the end of the huns game.

Compared to the awful atmosphere that has been generated by the home fans at Ibrox in recent seasons though, we should be proud that our support can at least still sing a song or two, even when the atmosphere is not up to it's usual standard.

One game in particular sticks in my mind and that was the New Year's 2011 encounter at Mordor (Samaras' game). Their fans were absolutely dreadful throughout, even by their standards.

I don't remember hearing them singing a song for more than 10 seconds throughout the whole thing, even though it was 0-0 for more than 60 minutes.

I was singing along with the Green Brigade from the North stand really really really close to the orcs and you couldn't hear them at all in the final 25 minutes. I could see that they were singing but I couldn't hear a * thing.

I was at the opposite end of the stadium in the Jock Stein Lower and I could hear them loud and clear. Albeit their songs were bigoted, racist and rancid and they happened to steal linguistical methods from the Green Brigade but nonetheless the Green Brigade and the rest of the Celtic fans didn't sing as loud as we could have for the final 25 minutes. As they were doing their pathetic "Super Ally's blue and white army" bit, I was just thinking to myself "Cmon Green Brigade, don't let those * embarrass us here". It's not a big deal but it did happen which is unfortunate.

Lat game of the season was terrible the whistle and just went everybody cheering and then Paul Pots came out and ducking killed it before the party even started. All that was needed was a few Celtic songs and a wee Oasis number and the place would of been bouncing.

That opera singer was an absolute riddy.

Moments like that should be left to the fans to enjoy without bringing in opera singers and the like.

That said, "when will we see you again" was a decent get it up you to the huns :celt_2:

Notts Forest 2nd leg - we just all expected an avalanche pf goals after a 0-0 draw down there.

We were like just relaxed cilled out and Forest scored 2 before we woke up...

    disappointing. Myself included. Overcocky.

And also the day we could of won the league at ibrox. The atmosphere before the game was brilliant but when it kicked off hardly anyone was putting in the effort even when the huns went 1-0 2-0 up we still could of sang and jumped about mental the league was wrapped up anyway. It wasnt really until the 3rd goal went in everyone just started singing towtown and drowned them out was expecting alot more from the crowd that day dont get me wrong there was singing but just wasnt loud enough but there was plenty people i knew who hadnt went to a game all season but ended up at ipox that day.

    Let the people sing,

I am the same mate, i remember leaving the ground thinking that we did well in the atmosphere respect, but then for the last half hour as mentioned they sounded better through the TV. I honestly just couldn't deal with being in the JS or main stand when that is happening, i would totally lose my temper i think. But in many respects, they still weren't that great - 10 german bombers is the only one that had any clarity.

I must say it was worlds apart from the previous 1-0 game when we beat them at home was an entirely different story, the majority of the JS lower standing with great participation the full 90, etc. With their section very poor, particularly in the first half. They sand their usual Rule Brittania just after YNWA and never made another worthwhile sound until the hour mark. On our perfromance, perhaps it was because this game somehow meant more to us than the 3-0? I'm not sure.

I don't know if it was because we had just got a bit used to humping them,:56: usually 3-0 wins like that don't come around that often so to get a second so quickly after the february one sort of took people by surprise. The atmosphere was ok for the most part, it just became stagnant once the result was never in doubt - many felt come on just blow the whistle.

It annoyed me how they felt like this was such a big acheivement for them when they they forget at ibrox when they beat us 3-2 earlier in the season that our support actually improved after each goal the oldco scored.

Bottomline really is that there are good and bad days on both sides, the home supports used to dominate, then a period when it was away supports that brought the atmosphere, but now it's a wee bit of both.

The last day of the season should have been better too, but i still think that is due to them leaving it too long after the league was won to then presenting the trophy.

It was the first time...against the huns. Doing it the 2nd time against Hearts was just milking it per se, which is part of the problem our organisers and whoever have when it comes to setting up title celebrations etc. They need to be professional.
