Thatcher's tackle on Pedro Mendes

Too late according 2 the rags today the police are getting involved. Awful challenge. Worse thing is he's done it b4. Pearce has condemned it now after seeing it again.

I think so too, davie. Its a match, suspensions, fines whatever but criminal charges should be kept out. Next thing you have tackles that injure players but no malice intent, being dragged through the courts.

But that was some challenge, he nailed him hard

Football is not above the law. What Thatcher did was not a mis-timed tackle he committed an assault on another person. It should not matter if it's a high street or a football pitch he should be charged like anyone else. Maybe if footballers like Ben Thatcher were treated like anyone who tries to inflict injury on someone else this wouldn't happen.

 

Mendes is ok now, sure I read that on SSN yesterday. Thatchers being suspended from playing with Man City, by the club and he's to answer a charge of foul play by September 12. It was horrific.

 

Yeah hes suspended by City for todays game, and McInally and the gillette soccer team today at about 12:30 were calling for two month bans and stuff.

Manchester City have banned their defender Ben Thatcher for six matches and fined him six weeks' wages for his challenge on Portsmouth's Pedro Mendes.
The internal club punishment is separate from any Football Association sanctions over the incident, which left Mendes unconscious.

City said two matches of the six-game ban would be suspended.

Thatcher was left out of the weekend's Arsenal match, which means he will now sit out a further three games.

Those games will be the 11 September trip to Reading, and the away games at Blackburn on 17 September and Chesterfield three days later.

Manchester City chief executive Alistair Mackintosh said: "As custodians of the club, and football in general, the board and the manager felt it was important to act as soon as possible."

Thatcher, who has written to Mendes to apologise for the challenge, must answer an FA charge of serious foul play by 12 September.

Mendes has said he will not pursue a legal claim against Thatcher but the Portuguese midfielder did urge the FA to "make the right decision on his punishment".

 

That is a proper assault feel for mende but what a challenge !!!
