Celtic and Auxerre have yet to agree a fee for the transfer of Gabriel Tamas to the Scottish champions - and that could yet jeopardise the deal.
Representatives of the 24-year-old Romania defender held talks with the clubs on Thursday.
But these were continuing on Friday without agreement having been reached for Tamas, who has 35 caps.
Auxerre are thought to be seeking a fee of around £3.5m for the defender who joined from Spartak Moscow last summer. Tamas, who had joined the Russians from Turkish outfit Galatasaray, played every minute of his country's three group matches at Euro 2008.

got to disagree about the CBs. Caldwell showed he can be a really top player in the last few months of the season. Judging on that period alone you would be raving about this quality CB who can really pass the ball about. Mick has never looked more than a dedicated journeyman. IMO, if JFK hadnt got injured and the money hadnt dryed up he wouldnt have got a game. He really wasnt a patch on JFK pre-injury. If JFK could ever recover his old self, I think him and Caldwell would be a great partnership.

totally agreed hammy, naylor and caldwell just aren't the quality of a team reaching the last 8 of the champions leauge, and when caldwell messes up clumbsilly everyone is so frustrated because ya can feel its gonnae happen, tamas is vital

as i said its good by celtic going there it shows him that we want him it also shows us celtic fans that peter lawwell is not sitting on his * makeing phone calls wanting players to come see him unlike martin bain who is more intrested crawling his way into the sfa from what i see the minute blackburn where intrested celtic made moves there going to get there man before blackburn or anyone else try to shows we rate this guy highly and dont want to lose him.

i like the fact celtic are not waiting about just like everything else in life you want it go and get it!!:50:

yes, Caldwell did show that he can be a great player in the last few months. imo, its just a a great jump in form and he will be back to his own ways soon. hope he proves me wrong. could do with 3 geniune contenders for two centre back positions (thats if we get Tamas).

i think JFK would probably be one of the best centre backs in Britain at the mo if he hadn't been injured. but the fact is he did get injured and it opened up the door for McManus. whom, in my opinion grabbed his opportunity with both hands and deserves the starting berth.

Keltoi I think your overly optimistic about Caldwell’s ability. For me all he did last season was roll up his sleeves during the run-in, just as the rest of the team did. He has proven to be less than secure on many occasions, especially at CPL level. If we have ambitions to improve at that level then the likes of Caldwell will need to be improved upon.

If we sign this boy Tamas then you would hope for him to be better quality than both of our current first team CB´s and walk straight into the side. It will be interesting to see which one of the two will lose there place. However my money would be on Caldwell, as IMO he has had far too many below average performances at CPL level.

agree with ellboy! we are releasing bobo to put caldwell on the bench and tamas in his place, the manager knows that gary has been clumsy, and we need to stamp that out, we have been slack at the back, and we have to improve, and bringing tamas in is a step in the right direction

    It'll probably be Tamas/Caldwell - McManus/O'Dea

lol find it a bit weird that Tamas wears the number 6 shirt at Auxerre.

i'd bet my mortgage that it'll be McManus and Tamas in the middle of the defence on the opening game if they are both fit.

right again hammy! big mick is the captain, o'dea will only replace him for injury/diddie game, caldwell will not be able to force a starting place over tamas, so hinkle tamas and mick.... but will naylor be there? if we get tamas then we have 3/4 of a great back line!

i have agreed with you before on this but i think wgs agrees with keltoi in that caldwell is good and he wont change his defence much the thing that really bugs me about the defence we have is they lose to many important headers from corners and long balls as i said before if rangers throw the big boys up cousin velicka and on corners add dailey and cuellar we are in trouble i would dread to see our current defence face off against mon forwards of sutton hartson and larsson if i was a manager playing against celtic i would just tell my team to throw balls into the box cause you would bully the celtic defence

i expect we are going to get another left back in this window. there was alot of hype about us getting Rat, Belhadj or/and Antunes. i bet the left back rumours will start to resurfess after the Tamas deal is concluded one way or another. hope we do get a new one to give Naylor a kick up the * he's been crying for all last season.

aye this is true, we lost alot of STUPID goals from corners and free kicks last season, we just fall over ourselves and let the opisition walk in and put it away, this must be fixed for next season, and also at the other end, we have a bad strike rate from the amount of chances we get, finnishing is so important, or the chances dont mean *... the amount of times aiden ran the field and passed it to jan for him to SKY it.... we must work on this pre season

Thats some kick, looks like hes landed in Sunderland! Apparantly agreed a fee of 2m with Keano... what a guy Roy Keane is. He loves paying over the odds for Celtic players :celt_2:
