Is this Tamas a centre half? Cause I dont think we need another centre half. possibly a left back but not a centre half

Alongside Robson Caldwell for the last 8 games of the season was, IMO, our best player.

EDIT: Still think we could do with strengthening though and Tamas would be ideal. I was speaking to a Romanian guy I know from various other forums and he described him as a 'legend'. Said that if we signed him it would probably be the best centre half we could get for that sort of money. Wins alot of headers and reads the game well.

    I agree entirely...

However, i also think that for his previous 65 games he was (on the whole) utter gash.

Yeah well said mate (lol) 8 games from a full season is a reason NOT to sign a younger and better Center Half.......... Caldwell is a LIABILITY and Needs to go, you could maybe have a case for him staying as back-up but thats it

To an extent I agree. I don't think he's been 'gash' as such. Infact I believe that the lack of any decent right back didn't do him any help atall. Since Hinkel has came in Caldwell has been a different player - for the better. If I had a choice I don't think he would be the ideal player I'd pick to be at the heart of the defence but I think some of the stick he comes in for at times is unjust.

obviously our aim is to improve the squad in any way we can. of course some areas are weaker than others. but if a player comes along that can improve our squad and we can afford him, then we will go after him. yes our left back needs a new member(s). other players have become available along the route (McCourt, Samaras and hopefully Tamas), therefore, we went for them.

WGS and Lawwell will already have their targets for left back in place and will be persuing them under the medias radar. imo thats the best way to keep prices down as we are not letting clubs and players know what our budget is and alerting other clubs to our targets. if this leaves us, the fans, in the dark until they arrive, so be it.

Well dude, that's a fair one - he's a FINE back-up for us... but for a club like ours, playing top level European football every season, we need a lot more class and awareness. Confidence is everything too, and Caldwell is a mere 1 mistake away from being the clumsy f^cker we have all had nightmares about!

it was because of him we lost the barca game at home, and its because of him we lost 3-2 to caley thistle, and because of him that we struggled, he IS a liability, thats the right word for him, tamas is younger, better, faster and less likely to give the ball away right to the attacking oposition

How was he at fault for the 3-2 game against Caley? He didn't give away the pen, didn't lose his man at the corner for the second and wasn't involved in the third at all.

I'll never forgive him for f^cking up with Novo's first goal in the 3-0 horror last October (O'Dea fuctup as well, but after the "Rock of Gibraltar" had made a complete * of himself).

He was involved in the 3rd. A complete balls up and didn't have a clue where the ball was.... as usual. I'm sorry but 8 good games in 2 whole seasons doesn't make you a good player. Chances are he'll be back to his old liable self next season!

You're right. We need more class. I'm all for the signing of Tamas, infact I hope we sign a quality international class centre half - a sort of Cuellar if you like. But Caldwell was part of a defence last year that conceeded the least amount of goals in the SPL. We aren't as bad at the back as things are made out to be. I'd defo have Caldwell and McManus fighting out for a place alongside Tamas next season because as of yet I'm not quite sure who's the better defender out of them. Caldwell will be a handy squad player to have though - he can slot in at various different positions albeit not very well in some cases (RB).

As for the Caley game - my memory is abit hazy, but wasn't it McManus to blaime mostly for that game? Could have drove a bus through our defence that day and it wasn't just because of Caldwell.

Caldwell was playing right back that day - clearly not his best position. It was Pressley who cost us the game that day not Caldwell.

Wages appear to be a stumbling block. Various sources reporting that hes after 31k per week. Others are saying he's looking for 3 times what hes currently on (6k).

I read quotes from him earlier on this morning saying that negotiations were going well though, so heres hoping.

It's fine blaming him when it's his fault but I don't think it's fair to blame him when he didn't cost us a game like the 3-2 one.

No he wasn't it was McManus and Conroy.

in order we need a new left back, centre back and maybe a defensive mid.

    why?

Lee Naylor at left back. enough said. yes, he was outstanding in his first season, but with no competition for his place last term we could all see he let his standards down dramatically.

the weakness we all look out for on a CL night is straight away left back. then our eyes start to wonder to the centre back position. McManus is our captain and sets an example to younger kids, knows what the club is about and does the simple things. he is a no nonsense defender (plays the ball the way he is facing ie. doesn't do anything fancy). he needs to be partnerd with a ball player of a centre back. that 'ball player' is not Caldwell. too many mistakes in his time at Celtic to prove that he geniunly deserves a starting place if he had strong competition.

Hartley was superb last season in that deep role. read the game brilliantly and gave that extra bit of cover to the defence. can't speak more highly of Hartley. one of our most consistant performers last season (...well apart from Sno. but he was just consistantly *). however, when he was injured who took his place? no one could play that deep role as well as Hartley and it changed the shape of our team to an unbalanced one. his legs will start to go in the next few years. if we bring in someone with youth on their side, they will sit and watch Hartley. he could do wonders for someone coming in and learning their trade, no doubt about it.
