You cannot accuse a person of being a paedophile on the sole basis of him being a Catholic priest.

If he meant it, he should be sacked. If he thought paedophilia was a joke appropriate for a charity do, he should be sacked.

This is a prominant journalist and broadcaster, in the employ of the BBC. He should be sacked.

Oh Tam leave that sort of thing to Frankie Boyle! he is far better at it than you. Was the guest priest a missionary ? Priests and Rangers don't really sit well together. Perhaps he was sent by the Vatican on a diplomatic mission prior to the popes visit. Could they be behind the latest rangurs take over bid? The Pope seems to like Bellahouston!

of course it is individuals who are good and bad not groups of people. He should not have said what he did. However personally I know victims of brutality and (non-sexual but severe) abuse when under care of the church. What made my mind up about the church is that even today they are still ducking and divig still in denial about the abuse. The Irish archbishop today was apparently trying to save his * despite being outed as someone who helped get kids to swear to silence about the abuse they recieved. His excuse? Something like 'that was just the way it was in those days'.

Gunt, you are right the Catholic Church does have a long and often disgraceful history (which i doubt we want to bore anyone with in this thread) but that is no justification for a man publicly smearing an (as far as anyone knows) innocent man of being a peado on the basis of his religion.

Agreed. I went a bit off topic because of the Irish archbishop story in the news.

I know a couple of guys who will loudly call each other F..n bstrds(they are both catholics) in the same way black guys call each other the N word. I think its hillarious and shows they dont take all that stuff seriously but it is a bit risky in case some thick sort doesnt get the (obvous) irony.

Im shocked by tam cowan saying this,i thought he was a nice guy. I also find it disgraceful that some fans think that the masons are linked to the orange lodge, my dad was in the masons for years but he hates the orange lodge/walks as much as everyone on here does and he doesnt like rangers, some people can just be far too quick to judge.

I know a few people in the masonic lodge in Easterhouse and they had a charity night , I was offered raffle tickets ,I asked what top prize was and it was a match day at broxys hoose with all the trimmings.
I asked if they had the same for Celtic park and his reply was "We want to sell tickets, if that was a prize we couldn't give them away."
They do have some token tims though he said.:97:

Remember that Cowan writes for a Mirror Group newspaper, and this story appeared in the Sun.

I'm not drawing any conclusions till it's been confirmed somewhere that's not a comic. :50:

That's three days, and no news outlet has followed it up.

Tam Cowan is nothing more than a fat * food critic trying to be funny. This latest comment, that we are so used to seeing nowadays, is shocking and should see him sacked imo.

The problem with these sort of * is they expect the Catholic religion to roll over and accept this type of *. A bit like the SFA :icon_mrgreen:

Just a misplaced quote, said in error clearly. Personally, i don't see the need to make such a massive deal out of it - i'd expect him to apologise and move on. Anyone can say the wrong thing at the wrong time, in an attempt to be humorous. Doesn't make him evil.

Incorrect - the fact he IS a fat * makes him a fat *. This, however, impacts on this simple point not in the slightest.

I'll say one thing for him - he is normally bang on with his Saturday food criticisms....certainly for the Aberdeen hostelries. The lad certainly likes a * munch!
