What I find funny is, its only the aussies remotely looking forward too or wanting this. It kind of shows you how bullshit it all is like some kind of exhibition thinking they're going to get an authentic flavour of a Glasgow Derby. Where in essence you'll be lucky to get 2 or 3 first team players with the rest being from the reserves and B team. The atmosphere will be nonexistent and the fans back in Scotland more worried that a player gets an injury or not. I've been to NFL games in the US, I've also been to a game in London, they're nothing like the real experience, it's just marketing hype. The biggest difference between the two is the NFL match was an actual match where the result matters, this charade in Aus is just a fraud, fake game in front of a fake audience.

Absolutely guys, the Jesters will be there, the cheerleaders and dancing bears. It's what the derby has always lacked.
There is enough money on offer which will ensure both teams field strong teams for about 60 mins. As it is a tournament, these teams don't want to be knocked out by two novice, wet behind the ears A League teams, "surely"...

We're not as naive as all that

Firstly both Scottish clubs will have contractual obligations to play the bulk of the first team for a specified number of minutes. No way will the promoter be forking out that kind of money for reservists or b-teams.

Even Harry Kane had to put in a shift.

Expect Rogic, Hart, McGregor and the Japanese recruits to start and play 60 minutes as a minimum. Same would apply to other mob.

As for the atmosphere, it depends. Wanderers had a fan base that created a brilliant atmosphere 4 or so years ago. If they turn up in numbers it will be a great night. The other Sydney team fans are more theatre goer types.

It wasn't in "aid of a club about 5 years old". There is a massive socio-economic divided between West Sydney and East Sydney.

I have played and followed Aussie Rules. Its a good game.

Majority of those players you named may well be at the world cup. I wouldnt expect too much.

I honestly see Japan in summer if we win league.

Also rangers stated both clubs negotiated there own fee so the 6million / 2million figure could be true

I'm expecting Rogic, McGregor and the Japanese lads to be in a completely different continent playing in a world cup.

From a commercial perspective it makes perfect sense. I'm just surprised it was not made up of 2 aussie teams and 1 from Japan.

Why do we need the Huns to market this! But let the rest of the world see their support for what it truly is.

If we win the league then it's a total win for Celtic.. but, with our recent form that is by no means a certainty.

Big money for the club, great chance to build support in Oz and Asia.. but still feel we could have had any other team involved rather than help put money in the pockets of a domestic rival.

Great for our fans in Oz, but once again it looks like our board want to help out a financially struggling club that are not living within their means.

Win the league and let the Angeball Homecoming Tour be a chance to mock the zombies .

Wouldn’t it of made sense to host this during the summer rather than when the world cup is on

Well the board could have avoided any chance of that by not making such a daft decision/announcement just before the title run in couldn't they have mate ?

There is some push going on in Australia right now to get support for Celtic.

Have been listening to the cricket this morning (Australia v Pakistan test) streamed on SEN, and the number of ads promoting Celtic, promotng the game with Livi on Sunday (which canbe watched live on their app), promoting the Celtic online store (and discounts SEN10, don't know if it would work here in the UK or not, but it's obv for Australian audiences), and the whole 'get behind Ange, Tom & the Bhoys'... just heard one of their ads (there are a few variations) for the 4th time in the last 2hrs!

Never had anything like that when I was growing up in Australia, when had to wait 2 weeks for the VHS tapes to be sent out to my grandad, and the only Scottish game that would ever get broadcast live was the Cup Final. Don't know if this is just because of this proposed game later this year, or if they've been pushing it since Ange arrived, but wow, that's pretty * cool that they are making such a massive, massive push to expand the fanbase there now.

"...And the Glasgow Celtic will be there"

This is unbelievable. Do people realise we are going down there to play football and not have a orgy?
You guy's must really hate making heaps of money for your club. We're even getting twice as much cash?? The deal was most likely offered to both clubs by Aus football. They sent a cheque with us and them never talking. All we are doing is going to Aus with a stadium filled with Celtic fans. Then smashing them whilst advertising our product and making a * load of cash
Football is a business and emotions can't get in the way of business.

On BT now is the Sydney Derby,
WSW 2 Sydney 0 at the minute, decent game, poor fans I’m watching don’t know what they’re in for from those hun animals, really don’t want to play them in Scotland let alone in Australia, think it was 5-1 when we won the league, they * off early unable to stomach yet another skelping, then I could see the damage to the seats those animals committed, that after having to listen to their vile chants NO I HATE THE huns AND DONT WANT TO PLAY AGAINST THEM ANYWHERE ANYTIME

The mattress man has come out against.

Can only see this going one way for sevco.

    We're angry theyre invited.

Sevco fans are apoplectic that their getting a lower fee and are basically the supporting act. Their bandying around * about pedos as usual, but realistically they know they dont really have a dog in this fight. And its driving them apeshit.

Theyll drop out, we'll get another "asian" side to take their place. Sevco get fined for breaking the contract.

    Happy days

The board should have not signed up to this until the league is won or lost. How fun its going to be watching the new old firm down under and the wife beaters decide to parade the cup before the game......aye * great.

End of the day the contracts are signed and it’s going to happen.
Quite likely at this stage Australia will miss out on World Cup qualification (unless we smash Japan on March 24 and some results go our way). Our national comp the A-League is in a real slump with the broadcasting rights going to a streaming platform and some other bad decisions going on behind the scenes… in general the football public here is starved of good football and starved of positivity. We’re in the doldrums right now.

The biggest and best thing that has happened to Aus football in the last 4 years is Ange getting the gig at Celtic. This tournament will be huge. It will be front page fodder - Celtic already has a huge profile but that will be turned up to 11. Football is already the biggest participation sport here but something like this in a year where we are out of the World Cup will be massive, a whole generation of kids will get invested. The media will be saturated in Ange and Celtic for a couple of weeks at the perfect time of year - cricket hasn’t started yet, AFL and Rugby League is done, Melbourne Cup is run and won. A nation of 25million people will be invested in what is happening with Celtic. This could get the SPL back on Fox Sports rather than just the odd game here and there, or onto Optus Sports - either way big bucks. For a one off tournament the long term benefits are potentially game changing. It’s a good investment.

Apologies if this has already been posted, but what if Ange isn't our manager in November?

Would still be the same appetite for this down under?
