exactly, absolutely no point in going away down there for a meaningless friendly when weve got an away league game at aberdeen in 4 days.

This is only a friendly, simple as.. Best thing we can look at was winning our first game of the season, in my opinion that game mattered this dosnt mean **** and im sure it would have been a diffrent game if it wasnt a friendly. :shamrock:

first off, whilst not a big club Swansea are a good team, and we were off the pace tonight as well especially Sinclair who is only just starting his pre-season campaign. there is no way he would have missed the one on one at the tail end of last season yet tonight he didnt even get the shot off.

Samaras impressed me more than I expected tbh...he took his offiside goal well and was winning a good few aerial battles which with Ashley Williams in defence as a tank isnt the easiest. In general though Celtic have no goal threat, or didnt tonight.

Losing to Swansea 2-0 in a meaningless pre season friendly is not the end of the world...first off your underestimating Swansea, second off all regardless of the Scoreline the game was very even, Celtic perhaps even edging it in my eyes...seemed the most likely to score until they got to the end product.

Sack Lennon and bring in McCoist :shamrock: If we had guys like Big Mo Edu and McCulloch we wouldnt be conceding 2 goals in ANY game :50:

Plus think of the sheer class we'd be signing like Lee Wallace and Thingmy Ortiz, the two boys are like the new Roberto Carlos and Luis Figo.

    Ahaha *. :56:

Yeah lets not get too downheartened by this, they are a newly promoted premiership team all fighting to show their worth. We however just wanted to get it out the way and focus on 'real games'.

    In a competitive game we'd destroy them.....probably.

    What's HM?

and its not the EPL its the PL, just like its not the EFA but The FA.

Swansea are in the Premier League through merit, we have worked our way up from the lowest division to the top in 6yrs.

Calling us English is just as ignorant and pathetic as calling all Scots English.

We hump Aberdeen at the weekend and this game will be forgotten about quicker than McCoist getting to a free buffet.

The Herald is critical of Cervi.

Celtic caught out by familiar frailty as Cervi fails audition

RONNIE CULLY AT LIBERTY STADIUM RONNIE.CULLY@HERALDANDTIMES.CO.UK

    4 Aug 2011
DOMINIC CERVI became the latest to audition for the role of first-choice Celtic goalkeeper, but like others before him he fluffed his lines.

It was his error that sent Neil Lennon’s side on their way to a 2-0 defeat by Swansea City in their final warm-up game.

The big American failed to deal with an innocuous dipping free kick from Scott Sinclair after 63 minutes in the Liberty Stadium. The ball spun up off Cervi and, before the goalkeeper could reposition himself, was swiftly dispatched into his net by Angel Rangel.

The frustration felt by the Statesider – who did make a couple of decent saves either side of his faux pas – was mirrored by Lennon, who had watched Lukasz Zaluska show his fallibility when he cheaply conceded against Italian side Internazionale in last weekend’s Dublin Super Cup.

Cervi could do little about the second goal, scored late on by Stephen Dobbie. But, by then, the damage to his confidence and chances of promotion had been done. To add to Lennon’s worries, Glenn Loovens hobbled off with a hamstring injury that is likely to keep out the defender for up to a month.

“It’s the other hamstring [from last season] and it will keep him out for three or four weeks, anyway,” said Lennon, who denied suggestions Celtic are in talks with Joey Barton, the Newcastle United midfielder.

Mindful of the eagerly awaited resumption of league football – with a trip to Aberdeen on Sunday – the Celtic manager had chosen to field a mixture of fringe players and first-team regulars.

While Celtic supporters, and perhaps a few scouts, were intrigued to see how the lesser-spotted Jos Hooiveld and substitute Morten Rasmussen might perform, Lennon may have been even more interested to see how the opposing goalkeeper fared, given how much of his time is spent analysing such players these days.

Gerhard Tremmel played the first 45 minutes as a trialist for Swansea. The German, released by Red Bull Salzburg, is one of a plethora of names linked with Celtic, and he has still to find a new home.

Lennon would have been impressed by the way Tremmel nonchalantly tipped over a precise drive from Kris Commons 20 minutes into the low-key affair. By then, Gary Hooper had seen a shot deflected wide after Georgios Samaras elected to pass rather than shoot, having been sent clear by Adam Matthews. Sinclair’s poor touch at the other end moments later allowed Hooiveld to clear.

The passing game which helped last season to propel Swansea into the Barclays Premier League periodically proved difficult for Celtic to subdue. Brendan Rodgers’ side have also mastered the technique of retaining possession and over-running opponents, but when Scott Brown and Kemy Agustien were cautioned for squaring up in the centre circle, it was the result of an isolated spat rather than a reflection of the intensity of the play.

Indeed, it took news of Malmo’s equaliser against Rangers to bring anything like a reaction from the Celtic supporters. Samaras had the chance to give them more to cheer in the second half but, although he was as profligate as ever, an offside decision when he did find the net did appear a little harsh.

Fans did at least get the chance to see if Victor Wanyama is, as Lennon has suggested, a capable centre-half when he replaced Daniel Majstorovic for the second half. The 20-year-old is impetuous in the challenge, always a concern for a man playing so near his own goal, but Hooiveld did his best to guide him.

However, the real problem lies further back, and, even if the warm-up games are over, Celtic’s search for a reliable goalkeeper is not.

CELTIC: Cervi; Matthews (Towell 69), Majstorovic (Wanyama 45), Hooiveld, Mulgrew (F Twardzik (69); Commons (Murphy 76), Brown, Kayal (Rasmussen 80), Ki, Samaras; Hooper (McCourt 61). Sub: Zaluska.

    REFEREE: Mark Whitby.
