If, and I stress if, Ledley wanted to go and try his hand in the English top tier then, at the stage of his career he's at, I wouldn't hold it against him. I just think Celtic could have handled the contract situation better. We should have done the same thing we did with Stilian Petrov. Got him to sign a new contract and sold him on for £3-5million, we'd have easily got that much for him. Instead of which we've fannied about and lost a really good player for £800,000.

That's my take on it anyway.

Which is why its a huge mismanagement to begin with. And that doesnt make him worth any less as a player. We should have got him in front of a contract or offered him to clubs ages ago.

No one knows what he was on ,what he was offered,what he asked for..and we never will
No real point trying to blame anyone for this cos we'll never know.
From a career point of view he's probably made the correct decision.
Does'nt look like palace are going down to me ,so he's got at least a season and a half playing against big names/clubs/stadiums....

Don't think any player will come out and say...nah * it im off when they have a year to run on their contract.
Fans would not like it and could be unsettling for the team and those not getting a game.
I know larsson did but he told us years in advance and was open and honest and got alot of respect for it.
Celtic have had a new contract on offer for him and sammy for months and nothing was moving on it but one phone call and he is in london and siging the same day...that tells you where the player wants to be.....not celtic.

 

Why don't we do that with every player? It's not as easy as you make it sound or we'd be doing it all the time. Players won't jeopardise their possible move and lower their signing on fee just for the club.

What Petrov done was a rare and noble gesture.

 

I'm not assuming anything if that's what his ambitions are then fair enough but I just think a lot of this could have been avoided had the club acted faster on the matter.

That's true but just sounds like too much of a coincidence if all that time he'd known England was where he wanted to play. As Damnati said nobody knows what went on behind the scenes I'm aware of that just wish the club had acted swiftly on this and maybe he'd still be a Celtic player.
