Big step down in his career and I'm not just saying that cause he's left. Crystal * Palace.

I'm still putting this down to the club not acting fast and extending his contact in the summer though when he was openly content about staying here long term. He'll be a huge loss.

something to do with the uefa system not being able to cope with the volume of transfers going through. so any paperwork submitted before the 11 pm deadline will still be prossesed.

Why are people criticising the club for this?

I know, seemed to me he was wanted to leave anyway.
better to get a 800k fee rather than lose him for nothing

Totally gutted by this. His work rate and love for the club was second to.none. If he started the game or a sub, he gave 110% everytime! And to make things worse, we sign Griffiths! That really shows the club's ambitions for the future! He might score goals in the spfl, but imo, that's all! If this is anything to go by, we can kiss champions league competition an early good bye! We'll be lucky to get to the group stages unless something major happens at end of season!

Good luck Joe and thanks for all the memories.

At the end of the day it's almost impossible to compete with the wages Sky/the EPL can afford to pay players. It's natural for people to want to secure their future by maximising what they can earn and it's unfortunate that, despite the allure of the Champions League, we just don't have that level of resources.

You never know, the bubble may burst some day and we may be one of the few clubs still spending within their means. Maybe.

Exactly. People will use anything to bash the club these days.

As good as Joe was for us I honestly don't think that he will be a hard player to replace.

He's certainly not indispensable....you could say that Chico is better than him (Better range of passing etc.)....He was a good player but nothing else

Funny that you posted these two videos.

Along with his goal in the 2011 CIS Cup final against them, the two videos you posted will be my abiding memories of Joe in the famous Hoops.

Not bad at all for a guy we got three and a half years ago on a free.

People talking about a lack of ambition.

The fact of the matter is that Ledley has left the SPFL and playing the likes of St Mirren and St Johnstone in half empty stadiums to playing the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool in the Premier League.

He will also earn a good chunk more than what he does here and will no doubt get a move to a better club if he shows up well in the Premier League. He has played in the CL and maybe feels he has gone as far as he can with us in that competition.

He has moved to a smaller club of that there is no doubt but they have signed decent players in this window and seem to be on the up under Tony Pulis. Palace aren't the relegation fodder they looked like at the start of the season.

I never thought he would sign a new contract anyway, 4 years is long enough for as good a player as Joe to spend in Scotland, I always thought he'd leave on a free after this season. Im shocked we've sold him and that he has agreed to go.

He's coming into his peak and wont want to spend that continuing to * slap teams like Kilmarnock, Inverness and Motherwell when he can play against Everton, Spurs, Newcastle, Southampton, Man U, Chelsea etc

I'm not just looking for a reason to bash the club. If he personally wanted to leave then fair enough but the fact that in May him and Samaras were openly coming out and admitting they were settled at the club and would be happy staying long term. I'm just baffled as to why their contracts weren't sorted out and extended at that point? Absolute stupidity to let them run down and now Ledley's had time to mull over it and change his mind. I just Johansen turns out to be a worthy replacement.

So why have you assumed then that it's the clubs fault, and Joe Ledley wasn't exaggerating his love for the club?

The latter is more than likely true. Players say things to appease fans, and hey, it's worked on you as you're thoroughly on his side.

Even if that isn't the case, nobody really knows what has gone on behind the scenes. There could be any number of reasons why Joe isn't at the club anymore. Just so much pessimism around here with everyone assuming that it must be the clubs fault.
