You mean he went to a team three point off the drop to win trophies.:56:
I don't have a problem with joe leaving but why is it every time a player goes its the clubs fault.
Some guys will leave no matter what...its that simple.

People always act like its between money and trophies.

But its really just enjoying football, I dont think they are that bothered about getting £35k or £25k. Ledley imo was always going to leave in the summer to join the Premiership, good players just dont want to hang around the graveyard that is the SPL for that long.

How long can a good player cope playing Kilmarnock and Dundee Utd 4 times a season?

He'd one trophies, played in the derbies and experienced the big CL nights there is nothing more to experience playing for Celtic than that, you'd just be repeating everything.

You said "only been here 2.5 years" like he'd barely played for that long yet he played against Aberdeen 14 times for us and 12 times against Hearts, 12 against Hibs and 12 against Dundee Utd.

    Basically what ILoveTheCeltic said.

But I hate this idea that players have to stay at Celtic. We might be a big fish in a small pond, but there is so much more for players out there. How dare they have some ambition in their career and want a challenge...

You don't come to celtic for the money and you don't go where he did for the trophies.
But i do agree players must get bored at times in the splsplsf.

I have not said how dare he leave, all i have been saying is you need to do more than he did to be something special at this club.

Players that I like and who leave an impression on me I'll always wish them well. If nothing else it also builds an impression of us being a club with good players.

That basically tells us he was offered a lower wage than he was on and punted because he wasn't accepting it..
Reading between the lines that's what I got from it!

I would say that also. To be fair, I have already said that I don't think we offered him the same deal as he was already on. It would be interesting to know exactly what was put to him.

I can't blame Ledley for wanting to play in the premier league, Scottish football is practically dead apart from our Champions League adventures.... but apart from the rarity that we do make it into the knockout stages is it really worth staying for more than 4/5 years if there's a chance to go to a top league?

I mean if Ledley does perform at Palace, there's more of a chance that a team like Everton or Spurs will snap him up than when he's playing with us.... and that's the sad truth. For most, the name "Celtic" is just not sufficient enough. I don't think Ledley is money motivated, I think he sees this a chance, maybe a gamble, but a chance to further himself.

I liked the guy, thought he was a good player for us. As long as he's happy with the move then I'm glad for him. I don't really mind why he made the move, it's his life tbh. I think Palace are alright too, I didn't see the last game, but their fans definitely seem better than the standard EPL library levels.

Of course,Matthew's basically said all he could say there but it was fairly obvious what he was getting at..
Between 20-22 grand possibly if the 25 grand that's well documented he was on is true..

I wonder where this leaves Matthews now as well, his best pal, teammate and international team mate from the same clubs and city gone and other best pal in hooper off..
Not sure how much it means but wouldn't surprise me if he wanted away in the summer, hopefully not of course!

That's not the first time this has been brought up,last time i asked the guy..where do you get this from.....where is the proof.
He knew a explayer who told him this:rolleyes:.....so just more bullshit.
Can someone explain to me why celtic would go and offer one of their better players a lower deal than what he was on.
Knowing fine well he is a good player and could walking into another team when he wanted to.
We are not poor and needing to offload players to save money unlike some out there.:bbpd:
It reduces the value of the team and the club,it would be like going out side and smashing the window of your car and then paying to replace it...what is the * point.
Insult the guy, lose him for 800k and then spend 2.5 million replacing him......yeah get real.
    Nothing more than board bashing.

It's pretty much coming from his best buddy himself..

He was signed on a free contract with a lot of interest at the time and we had no fee to pay, generally that leads to a bigger first deal..
We probably thought the deal was too much to offer again and weren't prepared to pay it..
It's not 'board bashing' it's the truth, read it again and see what you make of it..
Matthews wasn't exactly gonna come out and state word for word the facts and slate the board who pay his wages was he?

I don't have any evidence, that is why I said "I don't think", meaning it was my opinion on the matter.

However, reading what Matthews has said, who will know more about the situation than you or I, something definitely wasn't right. The obvious would be his wage that he was offered.

The statement was vague and gave away very little, anyone can take anything they want from it.
The reduced offer was doing the rounds before Matthews said anything,in fact i think it was on here before he even left.
No one has yet to come out and back up this FACT.
I didn't mean you was board bashing but this story is nothing more than board bashing.

Obviously none of us have hard facts but the evidence suggests to me that those of us who thought he was offered a reduced wage were correct..

Granted if everything was right he would still be a celtic player.

    better wages in epl.
    tired of the splflpf.
    homesick.
only ever planned to be here for one contract.
    family forced move.
wanted to play in the epl.
    contract offer had reduced wages.
Funny how out of all those only one is in the boards control but that's the one fans grab hold off.
Even though one of the others were clearly stated in the mattews interview.

He couldn't possibly use the homesick card when he didn't even move back to his country :56:

The only evidence i see it that statement is.....
I think he wanted to stay......so he does not know.
He wanted to play in the prem and got the chance.

I think the 'he wanted to stay but circumstances made him have to leave' says a lot about what happened..

Or he means, Ledley wanted to stay for the rest of the season, however 'circumstances' (Celtic wanting some sort of remuneration) meant he had to leave.

Papers have a funny way of spinning things. :smiley-laughing002:
