    Yip.

Think of an earthquake - it's something the earth must do, but it usually leaves a trail of devastation in it's wake.

*, that is extreme. Hope you're keeping well man :50:

I've had OCD since childhood but nothing quite to that extent, I don't think people quite understand how serious it can be and how it affects the person.

    Thanks fella. :50:

You're right - it is very difficult for folks to understand. Jeez - I barely understand it myself and I've been living with it for nearly 40 years!

It can be a real 'shape-shifter' too... what was fine yesterday can for no apparent reason be a problem today and a life changer tomorrow.

I guess the thing I want most is some peace of mind. I just want to be able to sit for a few second and not be anxious about something or other.

Just noticed this thread and have not read all of it but sadly I have been there and got the T-shirt, have been in A+E on 2 occasions after suicide attempts, do not want to bore people with too many details but about 5 years ago lost everything in my life that I had worked towards and things came crashing down around me, my wife, business and then my mental state went leading me to behave irrationally!

I still struggle on the odd day but have learned that suicide would be selfish to my mother who it would totally destroy, I owe it to her to keep on going on and trying to improve my lot.

Do not know if it has been mentioned but there was a great programme last week on BBC and still on the Iplayer about Frank Bruno and his daughter and their battle with mental illness, was an extremely good insight into what people have to face!

But by committing suicide you're only think about yourself and how * your life is. When there are people who care about you and will be horribly affected by your death.

When you are at the stage of depression where you seriously consider or attempt it you have no grip on reality, it's an extremely dark place....your mind plays tricks on you and you aren't thinking rationally....it's a place I hope and pray I never get to again and I doubt I will because I have a network of friends and family who know about my depression....know the reasons behind it and they can catch me long before I get anywhere near that point.

If it wasn't for two close friends I would probably still be hiding the truth from everyone....they helped me help myself by giving me advice and support and gave me strength to open up not only to them but to my GP and one of my family....which I've since had the.courage to speak to those closest to me excluding my son.....who I think I'll forever struggle to talk to.....

    Great post Marie! :50:

Once you've crossed a certain 'line' then the crushing blackness swallows up any notion of emotional or financial responsibility you may have to others.

I'm just about to split with my wife of 18 years, and we've been together almost 20 years. Over the last 6 to 8 weeks, I would be lying if I said that the thought of suicide hadn't crossed my mind on more than one occasion.

My head is complete mush, and I am not currently myself. A depressed state of mind coupled with emotional turmoil is a potent cocktail of * to deal with. I'm not generally easily depressed, but I can understand the hopelessness that some people feel. No matter what anyone says, it is not, in my opinion, a cowardly demise. Knowing that you are about to die must be frightening beyond belief, and only true despair can take you there.

I think of my children, and I breathe.

its just so sad to hear about a suicide and I think of how somebody could arrive to be in such a place that they think death is better than living. its a very complex issue, the human mind is something that none of us fully understand. the mind can be the most powerful or destructive tool which a person can possess.
suicide in Ireland is rife and it seriously needs to be tackled.

After the thread yesterday i wrote 'talkceltic suicide" into google and found this. Quite an interesting read.

I used to think about it all the time, got quite obsessed with the idea of it.I'm a shitebag though so would never do it. There's a certain amount of comfort in being miserable i find now. I just get on with it.

Suicide, unless you literally have no one who cares about you and your life truly is a shambles, is a selfish way out.

The poll question is ''have you ever considered suicide''. That's a * of a lot different from just thinking about it. I've thought about it and quickly ruled it out, it would never be an option for me.

But that's probably because I'm lucky enough to know it would completely destroy a number of people.
