Disappointing as he hit a spell of form where he was dynamite last season. Maybe began to believe the hype and it went to his head.

He's a grand player on his day but if he doesn't want to be at Celtic, there isn't much anyone can do to keep him in the squad long-term.

Couldnt have put it any better , to replace a player who impacts our team like he does we could not afford one ,simple as ,i think some get frustrated about his apparent coldness towards staying ,we are used to badge kissing and jumping ship players ,stu has the perfect poker face and its frustrating as * .

Anyone I know couldn’t care less about badge kissing, we simply want Armstrong to stay fit, and stay at the club.

We know how good he is, but he’s only played about 50% of games since he joined.

Obviously under Deila he was played on the left sometimes, had other injuries etc etc.

Bottom line is he had a brilliant 7 months last season.

He also seems to take ages recovering from injuries.

He said in January that Celtic had sent him to a hernia specialist in Germany, the operation is done a different way and he’d be back in 4 weeks. Well sure enough he wasn’t.

I can’t think of one game last year were he was a 9 out of 10.

If he wants to stay, great, if not ideally we sell him, the problem is Brendan Rodgers has specifically said we haven’t had a single bid for him, even last year we he had his good 7 months.

There was talk of West Brom, Portsmouth offering him 40k per week, but they didn’t bid.

Too much fannying about, hopefully it’s sorted in the next few weeks.

I just looked at the stats there, - Kieran Tierney has played the same amount of games in 2 seasons than Armstrong has played in a season and a half more.

    ?

If stats are your thing, Armstrong's performances last season were off the charts.

Good article here comparing last season to this season.

As I've said before, big fan and I'd really love to see the bloke stay, get fit and reproduce another season like the invincible one. Unfortunately I don't think things will pan out that way. He's gone off twitter in the last 24 hours too

If we judge players based on previous seasons rather than current then we should never have sold Stefan Johansen

For what it's worth I reckon Joe Hansen would've been a cracking player under Rodgers
Think he'd have given him a new lease of life like so many of our squad. Was only 25 when he joined Fulham.
53 apps this season, 8 goals, 14 assists. Promoted to the EPL. Norway captain.

Probably money, it's no secret he's a smart * and he also wanted to become a Lawyer - most people probably dont want that job for the fun of it but for the money. Staying with Celtic for the next 7 years say he might earn £9-10million if he keeps playing well and avoids injury. Moving to England he might be guarenteed £9-10million on one 4 year contract, safer money.

OP was bang on the money the last time, when we signed Armstrong, he’s defo ITK. Genuine ITK, no KDS ITK.
Agree with most on here, more than happy with Ntcham and McGinn to replace him. Cheers for the memories, and see ya later.
    He’ll struggle in EPL.

    This.

I think playing at Celtic suits his ability. He is able to dominate in a strong team against SPL standard players. Personally I don't think he will be able to stand out against better quality players and will find it more difficult again having to play wit scraps in one with one of the weaker teams.

Money wise it is short term gain for long term pain. Bets case scenario is getting a decent championship team. Worst case scenario is back with Hearts or Sevco(if they survive).

I can see him signing for a Bournemouth, Burnley or a Huddersfield. He’ll do couple of years then come back. Pretty much a Naismith. Doubt he’ll sign for the zombies tbh.

Nah. If he is, KEVG will be first to report it. Telling ye, that guy knows Armstrong personally I think.

I don’t even think his ability is good enough for us most of the time. A good half season spell last year and apart from that has been bang averag. Gets shown up on the big stage and is a man down domestically half the time.

The one thing he does bring is bursting runs from the middle of the park and a rocket of a dig when he hits it cleanly, that’s where he got most joy last season. He’s not a great passer, no good in the air, isn’t particularly strong in the tackle or that good defensively. Good engine on him and a good dig.

Would carve a decent career in the championship but he’s got high hopes if he thinks he’ll go to a top 10 prem team.

On form I think he's a cracking player and was certainly a huge part of the Invincible Treble last season.

I'd like him to sign a new deal and kick on again, but I guess that's unlikely. His priority seems to be maximising his earnings, which is entirely his prerogative, though I do feel he'd actually earn more in the long-term if he stayed here and continued his development. For instance, if he were to have another two very good seasons in a Celtic jersey, his reputation would be enhanced and if he did decide to move on he'd go for a larger fee and be able to command a larger wage - which could well be his last contract if he negotiates it right.

As it stands, I think he's underselling himself financially and making a bad footballing decision.
