That's a ludicrous statement to be honest, he's a right footed player playing on the left, you can tell a mile away he's uncomfortable as *, so your saying any professional footballer should fit in to any position? ? That's like barcelona sticking Messi at left back or ronaldo at centre back then expecting to perform miracles.

Been saying it for weeks.. He's not good enough for us. Maybe through the middle, but certainly not as a left sided player. He's utterly useless.

I'm not really a fan. I think a lot of his bigger fans are basing it on what they think is potential when he's nearly 24. I think Henderson would be a much better bet to pin our hopes on.

It's unbelievable from Ronny playing him essentially on the left wing . A right footed player who lacks acceleration and trickery . He got into positions on the wing today where he had space and time ( a situation a conventional left winger would relish ) - and he could do absolutely nothing with it other than cut inside slowly and wait for support. Ridiculous.

If he wants to play them both. Could always swap Armstrong for Johansen. I think that would work much better. Gives a better balance with a naturally left footed player out on the left & Johansen likes to get forward anyway(disciplined CM is not really his bag). I'm sure he used to play that position in his younger days so won't be new to him either.

  6. I was pretty underwhelmed at the signing of Armstrong and the two other Dundee Utd players last year.

Other than a decent honeymoon period at the start of their Celtic careers (more so Mackay-Steven), I've seen very little to suggest that they're good enough to be at a club like Celtic. In my opinion, they're not much better than the average SPL dross.

Needs to grow a pair, he has ability but he is far too shy and afraid to make mistakes. So he doesn't really try things and keeps it far too safe.

He is quick enough to play as a central box to box midfielder but he isn't quick enough for the wing. The amount of times he runs the ball out of play on the wing just tells you it isn't his position.

It's * that he's being put out wide.

What I don't understand is why sign a player like Armstrong, who you are trying to bring up to Celtic level, then waste time developing him in the wrong position.

We're trying to develop too many guys at once too late in their development stage. Allan (24), Rogic (23), Armstrong (23), McGregor (22) - Surely we can't develop that many players at once. At those ages they need to be playing every game in their best position, otherwise they're not being developed they are just squad players. When you look at them as squad players, we're a very poor side.

"Safe" is what I've been saying about him for a while now, and I agree with all of that..

He's in real danger of getting big stick from the stands if this continues and it's astonishing Ronny hasn't clocked this, when you look at what he's done to his pal Gms. It's not as if we don't have an abundance of player's vying for spots that could all do a better job than Armstrong has done....all season. Forrest, Allan, Commons, Johansen, Nesbitt, Rogic, whilst all not ideal, could all easily be getting a shot in instead of him just now.....then you have Christie coming in, will Stokes work his way back? He's in real danger as that's some amount of name's and who knows who else we've identified to sign..

I hope Armstrong is just going through a dip in form. Lasted too long. But I believe he will come good and needs to get into Johannsen position. The guy has a good football brain and could be relied on for the future.

He's being played out of position. The vast majority of players will suffer a drop in form if they are playing out of position. If anyone is to blame for Stuart Armstrong's current struggles it is Ronny Deila. Stevie Wonder could see Armstrong is like a fish out of water on the left wing.

Not a winger by any stretch of the imagination.

Couldn't agree more......and because of this we haven't seen what Armstrong can really do on a consistent basis.

As it is stands now, I'm losing the rag with the guy due to his (mostly) ineffective displays.

Did he, or did he not make a name for himself playing on the wing at Utd? I can't personally say for sure, but according to Mark Wilson (who played alongside him), he absolutely did.

I think he was given freedom of the park as their main playmaker. Definitely think his better performances have came when he's in the middle though.

I think there's a lot more to Armstrong than we have seen from him, even last season. He's been pretty average, but I wouldn't be looking to punt him or dismiss his ability.

Have you, or have you not seen him playing of the wing for us?
According to the Pope, ( who follows him every game he plays), he's absolutely * out wide.

Needs played through the middle behind Griffiths, unselfish and would play him in more often than not. Waste of his talent on the wing.

He didn't, he mainly operated in the middle.
