    Never noticed that before.

In that case, he'll probably leave to join the UVF. *.

I'll be really annoyed if we could potentially get £5m+ and we let his contract run down to nothing. Especially when we're chasing expensive targets and can really use that cash.

I agree with what others have said. Give him a fair offer and a deadline. If he doesn't sign then I would start looking for replacements (unless Rodgers is happy that he has one already) and start accepting bids. Use the unexpected cash to bring in a much-needed winger.

Lawwell would never let that happen not a * chance! Man could sniff out a £100 note at 5,000 ft!

Can you your point to an extent but if the player wants a buy out clause in his contract he really doesn't want to be here in the mid/long term and should just leave now.

He let it happen with Ledley.

Although I agree, he will have learned from that mistake.

The way I see it Rodgers would've considered Armstrong a key player for the coming season, so it becomes a contentious issue if Rodgers wants to keep him and Armstrong want to run the contract down.

Lawwell should say to Rodgers if we can get £5m or so for Armstrong this summer then it's 100% yours to spend however you see fit.

It's difficult to be optimistic, due to how long this has dragged on.

Doesn't take a genius to guess that the board will be wanting to save as much money as possible, while Armstrong will want wages to fit his first team status. I can understand it from the board's point of view, as the minute they start signing big contracts, a lot of the other players will want similar terms and I don't think that's sustainable in the SPL, especially if we were to miss out on the CL.

He's a player we should be keeping but he isn't irreplaceable.

He'd be daft to leave for Southampton or West Brom, another season here with a nice big contract playing in CL proving himself then he'll get a bigger move if he wants it.

I hate speculating on what's going on behind the scenes, and feel a bit unfair questioning his loyalty...I just hope they work something out...really hope he's here next season.Great player, great hair.

Don't think a buy-out clause will be an issue. Historically Celtic have never dug their heels in and refused a player a move when they made it clear they wanted to. When Ki, McGeady, Van Dijk, Wanyama, Forster etc. wanted to go, Lawwell ensured we got a fair price and let them go.

I would say that's speculation mate. No one really knows these numbers, but I think it's reasonable to assume it would be significantly less that what we would've received in the summer previous. That's a general rule.

Thing is a contract can be so flexable and tethered to both needs ,if it's a short contract s.a wants he could sign a 3 or 4 with a get out Claus to a certain club or watever ,which protects our investment but kinda makes him less of an attractive proposition ,but then for him to sign that Celtic has to go above and beyond a little here , higher wages but with the knowledge when sold to another club ,the higher fee we get covers his wages with more to spare .

Would rather he just went now and we got decent money for him. He can be replaced.

There's nothing imminent. He's awaiting talks on a new contract and that by all accounts is still his priority. There's no chance he leaves before the end of the qualifiers in any event.

Maybe it's a buy back clause he wants in his contract in case things don't work out :giggle1:

Dont know how hard it would be to say what he was doing either way. If it is down to the agent and he wants to stay he would tell his agent to bolt hes a smart boy. Got the feeling he wants to leave.

Big Gordon wanted to stay , but he still weighed up the situation with Chelsea for a bit, as everyone says with Armstrong hes a smart lad he's not going to dive in right away and sign, doesn't neccesarily mean he wants to leave
