Br interview , comes over as trying to keep the fans calm by saying he isn't bothered by southhamton link, I get a slight wiff of worry from his statements ,
I think most fans do know the game play in negotiations , but there is game play and using game play to run down your contract , we must be sure this is not the case .
I think he will sign , I'm not as confident as I want to be though, there will be a deadline in place I'm sure , if I were to merit a guess as to the hold up in this , he could be looking to sign a short term contract and we want to secure him longer to protect our investment ,his agent will have figures from other clubs which we will not match , this is why I think it could be a year extension and we may end up in a position to go with that the longer it drags on .

“There’s more development in Stuart and staying at a huge club like this, there’s not many clubs he will find bigger than this. But of course I understand salary and I know it’s a short career.

“I’ve had players leave for financial gain and I’m not criticising that.

“But when I speak to them later they can say ‘It didn’t happen for me when I left’. It’s a hard choice. Stuart is 25 and if he takes care of his body he has ten more years left.

“His best years are ahead of him when he matures as a footballer. If he has another year or 18 months and wants a move he can go to a great club where he can go and play.”

Agree 100%.....for him the contract talks have come at a good time for him....he is playing well....another two seasons of outstanding displays in Europe will see his value soar and then he would only be 27 he can choose to leave then for financial gain...but I'm sure that he will negotiate a good salary pay rise this time around.BR said at the beginning of last season that Armstrong was a player that he was most excited to work with due to potential and intelligence....come on Stu put pen to paper!!

Agree with all this , he can move on in a couple years , brendan and the club have brought out the best in him and i think he owes them some loyalty as well

There's very little loyalty in football sadly, especially if someone is going to treble your wages.

Sound's like Brendan is using another avenue publicly as Armstrong isn't being overly keen now?

What I take from that is Armstrong is thinking I'm 25 already and could treble my money right now. If he signs another contract he may possibly never get that lucrative move..

He may sign but I'm nowhere near as sure as I was a few week's back..

Of course it´s just speculation, but IF Armstrong would not sign a contract and try to run it down to go for a free than we should put him to the Reserves and not play him the whole season.

I am still convinced that he will sign a new contract.

I can't imagine he's on more than 4 figures so trebling his money shouldn't be a problem to us if we've any ambition. Ofcourse should aim to keep it as low as possible but if it comes to it then so be it.

Has anyone actually heard that he's not happy to sign a contract?

I do think he will sign a new contract too, but that is a big over-reaction.

If he's showing the form of last season, whether he's signed a contract or not it would be for the better if he was in the starting XI for us.

SCOTT Sinclair has told Stuart Armstrong that a lucrative move to the Barclays Premier League can easily go awry as his Celtic team mate mulls over whether to remain in Glasgow or go down to England.

The experienced winger has played in the Premier League in the past for Swansea City, Manchester City and Aston Villa - but he was delighted to clinch a £3.5 million transfer to Parkhead last summer after a desperately unhappy spell at the latter.

Armstrong, who is entering the final year of his current contract and has so far not agreed to sign an extension, has attracted the interest of several top flight teams down south, including Southampton, Stoke City and West Brom.

The 25-year-old only established himself in the Celtic first team last season after a difficult season and a half and Brendan Rodgers believes he should commit his immediate future to the Glasgow club.

Sinclair certainly knows that playing in the richest league in world football can, while being hugely rewarding financially, often turn sour.

“Players will always have a choice,” he said. “My experience will be different to that of other players. Stuart will have a decision to make at some point so we’ll see what he does. In my experience the grass is not always greener, but that is just when it comes to me. Everyone is different.”

You could see him considering a move to the EPL but the teams they are linking him with are mid table teams at best so it would be a money move as the top 6 teams it seems aren't interested

If he doesn't want to be here he can go. I'd bring John McGinn as his replacement he is a tim at heart and I think brendan would bring him up a few levels.

would obviously prefer he stayed tho

I'm convinced his head has been turned by Southampton. It was all the deal is imminent a few months back and now its oh he can play down south but maybe not yet, stay here a while. He is a smart boy and money always talks.

McGinn would be a poor replacement.

Not that I don't think he has potential as look at where Stuart was himself a year ago.

I just think they are very different players.
