The other thing is that the quality of player available to us here is in general not of the level required. Certainly if we have aspirations to go further in Europe and compete. It is players like Dembele, Sinclair, Sviatchenko who will help us grow as a club as they have the ability to step up on a higher stage.

Even if you look at recent years, most of our main men in Europe have been foreign imports or at least have came up from England.

Hopefully we can see more players like Tierney come through. He looked at home in Europe from the first whistle.

Thought he was class yesterday, it just shows what playing in his actual position does, and he was well deserving of MOTM.

Why will he never be a regular? Don't get me wrong, I have my doubts as to whether he can keep improving and maintain it consistently but you never know. If he can play like he did yesterday 9 times out of 10 we'll be laughing.

And it seems like Rodgers genuinely does think he has something.

He wasn't really playing RB on Saturday was he though, were you even at the game, he was constantly breaking forward and setting up attacks, he was never truly tested as a RB and it was basically a false position.

He was playing RB, just because he's bombing forward doesn't mean he's not playing RB.

He did play right-back more like a centre-mid though. When he was breaking forward he wasn't really going down the wing like a normal right-back, he was running through the middle of the park.

I always wondered how Deila never played him on the right of midfield where he'd have been more natural at crossing or linking with players as he's not really a goalscorer so you wouldnt imagine he'd be the type to suit the left for cutting in or cutting back on to his right, he's more Muller style who i've never seen playing on the left only the right.

No he was not, it was more a right midfield role, he was not tested at all defensively and we played with a back 2 with Brown dropping in as he has been, as I said it was a false position a wing back role at a stretch.

So just because they offered no threat offensively it means he wasn't playing RB? He played the position extremely offensively but our formation was a 4321.

The guys point was hes playing well in his natural position which he is. He was at right-back at times but he was also in centre-mid a lot too.

When Lustig went off the set up looked like

    Gordon
    Simunovic Sviatchenko
    Brown
    --------Armstrong McGregor Izaguirre
    Roberts-------------------------Sinclair
    Griffiths
    Dembele

Armstrong didn't really stay out wide the way Izaguirre did or Lustig would, he was aways running inside more the movement youd get from a centre-mid. When we lost the ball he went back into a right back position but since we were mostly on the ball he was going forward more like a centre-mid than a full-back.

Exactly his headed chance in the first half and his set up of the third goal show this, yes its quoted he was playing RB but it was not really the truth tbh, he was breaking up play in midfield and running off the last defender, if Lustig or Gamboa start doing that then I will admit I'm wrong. :84:

Did you even watch the * game, Jesus I have explained the reason why I don't feel it was a natural RB position, what more do you want * blood.

Aye, it was hard to tell what the set up was. Izaguirre and Roberts were the two guys staying wide and Armstrong and Sinclair were the ones who were meant to be wide but were playing more central and with Brown dropping back a lot like a 3rd centre-half it looked like a 3-4-2-1 when attacking with Brown back and Roberts and Izaguirre wide with Sinclair coming closer to Griffiths or Dembele and 4-4-1-1 when defending where Sinclair would go back wider, Armstrong would fall back to right-back and McGregor would sit back with Brown. Griffiths mostly stayed in the number 10 position 20 yards behind Dembele.

All that arguing over what position he played :31:

Can you guys not go play paper, scissors or stone :)

Regardless of position IMHO he'll cut it in the SPL but not if we want to progress in Europe.......but so hope I'm wrong as genuinley like the guy.

    Blonde Cafu!!!

He was really good and deserves it. I wouldn't be against trying him there again against the lesser sides, could have had a hattrick at the weekend.

  17. Armstrong is becoming one of my favorite Celtic players. He has waited so patiently for his opportunity and has worked extremely hard on his game to get where he is, and unexpectedly we have found out he even can deputise at RB, so along with Lustig and Gambao for that position, it dozen't need strengthened anymore. One less position to worry about.

I'm well aware of how he was playing the position. The only point I was stating was the fact he was playing RB which GYP argued against.
