We are a selling team though, everyone has their price. Very naive to think we can compete financially with the EPL and keep hold of players who want that move and see us as a stepping stone. Not exactly Lawell's fault that they want to leave. Get a grip.

Probably closer to 5M depending on sources, Pukki was £2M.
Can never trust any sources though, so it's all guess work really. Am sure they won't be that far out though.

Hopefully we're keeping our cards close to our chest and out of nowhere Armstrong will sign, maybe even GMS if PL opens the famous biscuit tin :icon_mrgreen:

'CELTIC plc have released the interim report for the six months to December 31, 2013.'

Prudent investment in, and management of, our playing squad is a key component of the club’s strategy. In line with that strategy, we continued to invest in the playing squad, with £5.0m invested'

That was Balde, Van Dijk, Boerrigter, Bitton, Pukki

We spend nowhere near what people think. The board are happy for us to believe Pukki cost £2m etc but he didn't. I'd guess he actually cost less than £1.5m

Yeah is that just up front payments though? Very rare the whole sum is paid straight off, normally payments agreed.

No that's the full transfers because our full sales are there. £20m etc which obviously we aren't getting upfront.

This has been going on for years. Nakamura cost £1.1m according to Strachan but most think he cost £2.5m. I repeat. We spend a lot less than anyone thinks.

I cannot get my head round the fact that we aren't willing to pay out for both him/GMS. It's an incredibly fair deal, we are just * them about.

That's good to know, surprising that about Nakamura, absolute bargain really. Buying players in January means they are always over valued, we don't need Armstrong just now but would be a great addition for the summer. We will probably offer 2M max for him plus add ons.

    It's embarrassing.

£2.5 million for both of them. * *, it's not a lot of money.

if we want him then we should pay what they have asked for. they aren’t interested in any of our fringe players because they see themselves has having enough depth in their squad and im inclined to agree with that. they have a readymade replacement for armstrong in telfer, other good youth prospects in souttar, spittal and petrie, just brought in a decent spfl defender in mcgowan and added anier to their strikeforce (although doubt he’ll be up to much)

why would they sell us one of their players at less then what they value him AND take on one of our fringe players to give him games and send him back to us a better player AND at the expense of developing their own players

its like were asking them to take a hit for them having a great national scouting strategy and youth policy while we * away money on sick notes and the footballing equivalent of benefits scroungers

i know its important that we don’t go chucking cash away needlessly, but for the sake of an extra £300-400k surely it makes sense to pay the asking price as we will make that back easily from a combination of progress in competitions and bums on seats not to mention potential sell on value

our buying strategy in recent years has been buy players at ‘x amount’, develop them and hopefully sell them down south at ‘x amount + y’. its worked well for us and its failed for us and i think on balance it is probably the right strategy, but I don’t see why we are willing to pay ‘x amount’ for someone who’s finnish, dutch, portuguese or serbian (or * bangura!) but not for someone who is scottish, as if being scottish somehow means they were worth less regardless of ability. that’s bullshit. look at the fees being paid or being asked for players like mccormack, rhodes, marshall, snodgrass, steven fletcher and even james mccarth(y/ur)

if anything there is now a premium on scottish players similar to that on english players but on a smaller scale. we should be looking at that thinking ‘ok, well if we spend 2mil on armstrong and develop him for a few seasons we could maybe sell him on for 8mil+’. we already know there are teams in the EPL looking at him, they’ll only be more interested after a few seasons improving with us

but nah, we’d rather spend 2mil on a finnish striker and then struggle to sell him to brondby for half that 2 seasons later

I seen an article which said we bid 1.5m...then upped the bid to a whopping 1.6m:smiley-laughing002:

Obviously it's all hear say but I tend to believe it.

£2m for a player with 18 months left on his contract and a player like McGregor on loan until the end of the season until United can replace him. You can't see why that would be appealing?

If we don't get this deal done today I'll be * outraged. It's really not a lot to ask, Peter.

In football, that's not a lot these days.

We're happy enough spending £2 million + on foreign players that nobody has heard of, yet we can't spend the same on players that we all know about and are worth the money.
