Not really, he's the chief executive. He's answerable to the board and the shareholders, but he's employed to run the club. That said, if he is just following orders then we should be even more vocal in calling for his removal, as it begs the question: 'why in *'s name would we pay a man £1 million a year to merely follow orders and decisions that someone else is making?'! We could get some other lackey to do that for a fraction of the salary!

But you are also right, the likes of Dermot Desmond and other board members should also shoulder the blame for the regression that has taken place. I would say their biggest fault has not been to replace their chief executive!

Hmm doesn't sound very promising. So if Burnley and us both offer the 2.5 and its accepted he will choose Burnley?

He is under payed for what he does and is not even the best payed in the splfplfplf.

Can i ask you......if he got sacked or left today and the new guy started tomorrow what makes you think anything at the club would change...ie spending or signings ect ect.

Fingers crossed this deal gets done, Scott Brown was never worth 4.4 million but we paid it and he has become a great servant for us and I would say Armstrong is a much better player than Brown was at his age and we can get him for 2.5 million if you believe in the reports of what Utd value him.

    Get it done.

I fear this may be one of those we'll live to regret if we can't get it done, exceptional talent.

    Is he really?! :smiley-laughing002:

As a football club Celtic is currently at a level where they are just about competing against the likes of Maribor, Karagandy, Astra Giurgui, Helsinki etc. Do you think CEO's of those clubs are on anything like the salary that Lawwell is on? I don't think they are, and I don't think they've got the resources that a club like Celtic has either!

If Celtic changed their chief executive of course I would expect a change. They are employed to run the club after all. Having said that, even if things did stay relatively the same, and there wasn't massive changes which I would hope for, at least we wouldn't be * away £1 million a year on a guy that has brought the club to the level of Astra and Maribor!

Sean Dyche (Burnley manager): "Different offers have been in for players. One's been rejected today. He was more of a development style player in our world - a good young player we think who could learn with us. That won't happen now, by the looks of things."

I don't want to go against nature but I think the ignorant posts about Peter Lawwell deserve to be answered . It's certainly not P L 's fault that the upper decks of Celtic Park are closed
He is responsible for reducing the season ticket price by £100 and keeping the reduction .
He has also given other incentives to season ticket holders who of course are entitled to take up his offer or refuse .
He was recruited by Celtic when our main rivals were in the midst of the biggest financial cheating ever known in British football. Despite severe criticism from Celtic fans for not matching Rangers 1872, pound for pound P. L brought Celtic into a safer financial position whilst the team more than held its own in domestic football and often got results far above themselves in Europe . Over the last few years , with virtual no Tv money and not even an SPL sponsorships and with dwindling gate money P L has helped the manager to be domineering in the SPL occasional good result in Europe and unlike many top division clubs on this island in a safe financial state . The board may set the guidelines but P L has to steer the vehicle between the ditches . A season or two of spending £5/6 million on a couple of players each season could very well leave us in a threacerous state .

There was something a while back about him being 3rd highest payed in the splfplf.

But you agree he is a employee and following orders so why has he brought the club to the level of Astra and Maribor.....is it not other factors affecting the clubs spending power that took us down to this level.

Anyway...will be getting told of for derailing the thread so back to topic for me.

Get him signed celtic and prove kev right.:icon_mrgreen:

Dont get why so many talk him up. I saw Armstong play several times and he is really good, but not like some say he his. And I dont know what he can add to the team that we dont have. If Commons would be sold this window then I wouldnt have anything against bringing in Armstrong for a fee of max. 2M.

    Pro Henderson.

    pedro?

nah, to be fair i do kind of agree with a lot of it. but still, his negotiation tactics have seen us miss the boat on a couple of great players over the years and for the sake of haggling over a couple of hundred thousand pounds

He has played somewhere close to 150 first team games at the age of 22, and has arguably been DUFC's best midfielder over the last 2 seasons. The main player in the majority of the good attacking football they have played and still do play.

Someone said it earlier, he's got more to his game, certainly going forward anyway, than a certain Scott Brown did at the same age for Hibs. Which didn't stop us spending £4.4m then.

No, he's the chief executive, he get's paid £1 million a year to run the club! And, as I've said, if it was just the case of him just being a lackey and on that kind of salary, then we should be even more vocal in calling for his removal!

But you're right, we should keep on topic. But I'll need to disagree with you again on your last point- keep your hand in your pocket Peter, Armstrong's not worth it!
