Not at all, I just happen to think Armstrong has more to his game than Brown did when we signed him. I prefer the type of footballer Armstrong is though to be fair, it's all about opinions.

£2.5 is natter nowadays. A premiership won't even think twice before throwing that sort of cash down. I genuinely don't think we have a chance with other teams' young Scottish players, unless its a pre-contract or they have one year or so left. They are commanding too high a fee now. It's a sad day when a couple of million is too high, but folk wouldn't be too happy if we spent that on young Scots, seems some people would rather we throw that sort of cash at foreign players? At least we know what we get with the young Scottish lads - worked well with Brown.

Have you been spending time with Peter lately, you are such a tight-fisted *. £250k too much for Mackay-Steven and £2.5m too much for Armstrong. :smiley-laughing002:

Hopefully this happens. £2.5m is a large amount of money to us these days but I think Armstrong will be worth it.

This would only be the second fee payed for a player by a Scottish team this season, the first being us for Guidetti. Shows how little money is in Scottish football at the moment. Hopefully Utd will be able to reinvest and Aberdeen too now theyre debt free, get the money flowing back around this league.

    Edit - meant Scepovic obviously.

£2.5m is a good deal for him by the way. We'll just need to see if it's a good deal for us.

Much more excited about this attempted signing than the MacKay-Steven deal.

Armstrong has many of the qualities which fit with Ronny's thinking of how we should be playing. Tremendous work-rate, passing ability and a goal threat from midfield. The part of his game I like is his movement, in particular his running from deep, arriving late in and around the box behind the play. We seen an insight of this to our cost a few weeks back with the 2nd goal in our game at Tannadice, granted Forrest was woeful but Armstrong was savy enough to take advantage.

Yet if the lads name was Van Armstrong, you amongst others on this forum would be creaming yourselves over him, it's about time we invest in some home grown talent.

The one thing I really do like about RD is he seems to be keen on getting the best young Scots talent ,if only we had done that in previous years.
Hopefully this can be done in the next few days.

Great wee player. I hope this doesn't turn out to be one of those "we did all we could" rubbish. I think he and GMS will fit in really well at Celtic and will give our game the wee lift it's needing right now. Celtic have be turgid to watch at times.

Hopefully dundeel Utd reinvest the money on some good signings. I remember going to Pittodrie and Tannadice and hoping to get at least a draw back in the 80's I hope aberdeen and Utd can get back to those days and make our league a lot stronger

Would be a great window if we got these two in and possibly being greedy but another player :celt_2: Would bring youth , flair with gary and stuart would bring a strong running game that can drive past players. Gary and stuart have speed aswell and stuart has the strength and attributes to get stuck in to players. Would freshen the team and give a bit of life to the staleness around the team atm

Would be great to have fully fit team for february with these games coming up. Also believe these additions would help set us up as a good counter attacking team away from home in europe.

Would love us to have this team come february playing :

    gordan
    lustig/matthews denayer van dijk izzy
    brown johanson/henderson
    forrest stokes/armstrong gms
    guidetti

This looks alot more attacking and i believe is the sort of side that could carve spl to teams open. Dont think in spl we need bitton and brown as were barely ever defending. Would to see if young henderson could cope in that position. Thats a team that would excite me personally but sure knowing us half those players will be injured.

Said a few days ago I'd prefer him to GMS but to have them both would be a great piece of business, hopefully these rumours come true. They're the best prospect in the Scottish game just now. We still need cover at left back and hopefully have replacements lined up for VVD and Denayer.

I'd like to see Armstrong and GMS both in this window but can understand Utd wanting to keep hold of them both.

I'd prefer Scott Allan to either him or GMS.

At a fraction of the price as well.

    apparently knows the man himself

really hoping this deal goes through. i think he can take his game up a few levels with us. having his best mate joining in the summer is also a good point.

read through some of the utd forums and the general feeling seems to be disappointment that he might be going, especially to us. a lot of people hoping an english club will come in for him and take him away from us, even if its for less money :56:
