If we cant afford that much now and again then the board should at least be honest about it, not give us the old 'we can afford £6mil on a player'. Wages wouldn't be an issue with this guy either.

I see it as being similar to the deal for Brown. It's quite a bit of money for us to be spending, especially on a player from another SPL team, but I think it would be money well spent in years to come. Whether that be by making a decent profit on him, or having him ply his trade here for most of his career, just like Brown. When you consider we spent £4.4m on Brown, this is a reasonable price in my opinion.

£2.5m is a lot, but his wages should be manageable and it's a low risk investment compared to shopping abroad.

After getting rid of the excess squad players we should be making a decent saving anyway.

Pretty sure Wakaso was valued at £4m.

There seems to be a fair bit of differing opinions on GMS and Armstrong, which is fair enough. I know if they were to both sign and do well the support will be right behind them tho. How many goals will they get between them a season?

Think he is a better player than Brown was when we bought him which makes the fee suggested alot better for us.

I've never really been impressed by him to be honest.

Agreed. I think he is an all round better footballer than Brown was when we signed him at a similar age.

Which is why we lose a lot of talent to England but at the end of the day it is a massive gamble for Celtic to pay that for Armstrong whereas for diddy sides like Hull and WBA with massive multimedia revenues they can pay that and if it doesn't work out it's no significant skin off their teeth.

What relevance does us being able to pay £2.5 million for a player have to not wanting to pay it for any particular individual.

I'm not saying I think £2.5 million is too much for a player, I'm saying it's too much for Stuart Armstrong.

I think people forget just how good Scott Brown was at Hibs.

To be fair, we were happy to spend £2.2m on a striker who we had no idea whether he could cut in Scotland or not, and as things stand, it isn't looking like a masterstroke. At least with Armstrong we are getting someone we know is capable of playing in Scotland, and playing well also. I don't see it as being any more of a gamble than the Scepovic deal. I actually think it's a reasonable price.

I bet he takes the number 19 (as in 1+9=10)

2.5 million, in the context of what we've * up the wall on foreign duds, is nothing.
