I would go with Ferdinand. I think Terry was an unbelievable "ball-winner" who could throw himself into blocks, challenges, headers etc but Ferdinand was the better player.

Terry I think had many games where he didn't play as well against top class strikers whereas the best defenders in the world would usually play well regardless of opposition.

If Costa Rica had gotten through then they were still 4th best in the competition. If England had reached the semis then they were the best team left in the tournament.

That Czech Republican side would have beaten England, same with Holland.....I can't see how they would have done better than anyone else against Greece either

England are a bad side, they've reached two semi-finals since 1966, by beating Spain on penalties and by beating Cameroon

Portugal aren't even that good and have reached at least the semi finals in 4 of the last 6 tournaments

Aye, they couldn't make the semis, but IF they did, they would be the best team there...so why didn't they make the semis then? Surely the best teams go through eh? Your logic is so * stupid.

Just accept it, England weren't good enough and that's why they were knocked out. The best team doesn't go out in the quarters.

But away and * England some more you wee * :bbpd:

Us Irish could just as easily say if Roy Keane didn't walk out on Ireland or if Ian Harte hadnt have bottled his penalty against Spain we could have been in the Quarter Final of the WC v S.Korea which would have been winnable, therefore we could easily have been in the Semi Final which is one game away from a World Cup final.

Stupid argument really. Fans from any team could say similar after any tournament.

I always thought G.Neville was good for England and Beckham. That Beckham free kick against Greece last min of game summed Beckham up. He was brilliant for England a times. And Rooney has a good scoring record for England 40 goals is no mean feat.

Just sums England up, Beckham's greatest moment for England is scoring a last minute equaliser in a home qualifier against Greece

Not one player in England's "golden generation" were world class even if quite a few of them had top quality individual attributes. If they were we would of seen them compete in finals and semi-finals. At their best they were a quarter final team. Nothing more. In saying that, Gerrard should of stayed on in a capacity in which he could help the younger players coming through. The guy is a top captain.

Glad he's retired, so he can focus on Liverpool. Never got the recognition from the general England fan. One of the best complete midfielders of the last fifteen years.

Yeah, it's called supporting a team mate, isn't it? Everyone knows it's probably not true, but what do you want him to say? That Sturridge isn't a patch on Fowler?
