Lampard goals were * though, I mind for years most of his goals seemed to be deflections.

Scholes and Gerrard scored loads of quality clean strikes from distance.

Lampard scored some absolute belters but he did have that knack of scoring deflections as well, done it that much it can't be an accident, whack it in the a dangerous area and end up with a goal.

He was definitely "the right place, right time" player,
& as you say that's not an accident that's someone
who knows whats happening & can read the game,
& is willing to burst a gut to get in the right place.

( burst a gut might be a bit exaggerated for fat frank ):icon_mrgreen:

I was talking about a certain type of goal, not any goals. Do you think Lampard was a better striker of a ball from 25 yards than Gerrard or Scholes?

On that video of his 25 best goals only about half are the type of goals I was talking about(and even then 2 of them were goalkeeping errors). Watch a couple of Gerrard/Scholes best goals and probably 75% of them will be strikes from distance.

Was actually a few good strikes from Lampard though to be fair but then there would be considering hes scored 200 odd goals. Lampard's never stood out to me as someone who scores great goals.

Also before when you said "Vieria isnt technically good", thats not what I said, someone said Keane wasn't technically as good as Scholes, Gerrard and Vieira and I said Vieira wasnt THAT good technically as he was naming him beside Scholes and Gerrard who were technically better than Vieira and that Vieira was technically not much different to Keane. Vieira wasn't the sort of player who sat and pinged about 50 yard passes or scored belters from distance etc

And about Scholes, when was Scholes most dominant period when he was the best midfielder in England? How can someone say Scholes was the best EPL midfielder when at no point was he actually ever the best at any one point even just for a season.

There's not been a single season in Scholes career when he was the best midfielder in England, early 2000s Keane and Vieira were better, mid to late Lampard/Gerrard/Alonso/Fabregas.

Would be like saying Iniesta is the best midfielder to play in Spain in the last 10 year when i'd say Xavi was almost always better than him although to be fair to Iniesta he has had 2/3 seasons at times where he was the best. But Xavi probably had 5/6 seasons where he was the best.

Obviously people have different opinions so you may think Scholes was the best in whatever season, but would like to see the seasons named where people think he was the best that season as honestly I dont recall any season he was.

Aye, he was the king of the deflected goal. Not so much lately in the last few seasons, was probably more around 2004-2009 or something but at some point in time he seemed to be scoring deflections for fun. Im sure I even recall one that bounced off 3 different players and went in, although that probably counted as an OG.

Agreed on both points. Lampard was incredibly effective, he had this real knack of finding the bottom corner and from 18 yards he was deadly, but he wasn't the best striker of the ball, when you imagine Gerrard you imagine 30 yard screamers into the top corner, when you imagine Lampard you imagine edge of the D, low into the bottom corner. A very effective player, but not a scorer of outstanding goals imo.

Not many players ever to play in the premier league could hit a ball like Steven Gerrard, don't think there's any doubting that.. Frank Lampard was, as people have said, very effective on the edge of the box. He had a knack for finding a bottom corner.. And I agree about the deflections, The first season chelsea won the premiership i remember it sticking out in my mind that he seemed to keep scoring deflected goals. But even in that, I think he knew what he was doing. He was striking the ball into a busy dangerous area, and every now and then it paid off!

Frank Lampard, at 36, has better positional sense than any centre mid in the World IMO.

He is absolutely exceptional at forecasting to the exact half yard where a ball is ending up in and around the box. It is ridiculous.

Aye there's no midfielder in premier league history who's in the right place at the right time quite like Frank Lampard.

Even new years day he came on for about 20mins,
scored the winner , could have got a hat trick & was
    given MOTM.

I think he was put on as CF :97:

Agreed, he plays his role as intelligently as anyone. It's his only outstanding attribute actually. It's why when played for England in a different role he looked completely average.
