So everything Gerrard did was by himself and everything everyone else has done the player was carried.

Some player Gerrard is taking on everyone himself. The only reason people rate Gerrard as world class is because he's English and he's good and SKY Sports hype him up. In my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I'm not clutching at straws at all, winning the League Cup is still a big accomplishment for any club saying differently is very disrespecful to the team who won it.

    Absolute, complete utter * mate.

It's got NOTHING to do with the fact he's English, he's quality and leads by example when it really matters, he could be from Iran and his quality would still shine through.

Anyway, we're just going in circles here, I've enjoyed this little debate, I'm not going to change my view and neither is RudeBhoy and Mystic so I'm going to make this my last post.

I rate him because he's bailed Liverpool out dozen of times and he can play defensive and attacking. Great tackler, great passer he can score some crackers and he is a leader. Like I said he's been nominated for ballon d'Or so I doubt it's just English fans and sky that rate him.

the game against everton was probably the best game of his career since istanbul 2005, he's a great midfilder but there are plenty that are better than him, that's why i regard him as top 20

No, this season alone has proved why the Premiership is the best league out there. Man U 8-2 Arsenal, Man City 6-1 Man U, Arsenal 5-2 Tottenham, Arsenal 5-3 Chelsea, Man U 2-3 Blackburn, Man City 3-2 Tottenham....I could go on and on, there's been so many shocks and massively exciting games.

La Liga has the best individual player, and the best team in the world, and the best La Liga team would beat the best Premiership team, but what does that prove?
The bottom Premiership team would probably beat the bottom La Liga team, and anyone who think the Italian, French, German or any other league is better than the EPL are in dreamland. I know people don't want to admit it, but it's true.

In this day and age, the consumer is always right, would as many people worldwide have invested so much in the Prem if it was not the best league in the world?

Nope, by far the biggest and best competition nowadays (and since at least 2002) is the Champions League.
Enough idiots think Messi isn't the best because he hasn't replicated his club from for country, Gerrard similarly is good for his country but even better for his club, both players have won the Champions League, both have appeared in 2 CL finals, and both have scored and won MOTM awards in CL finals - they can score 5 own goals and get a red card in every single international match they play from now on, they will STILL be brilliant players and the international argument is void and out-dated.

Some people, infact many people, think Messi isn't the best player in the world, many think Ronaldo is better, many people in Scotland think Rangers are the best club in this country - does that make those opinions correct?

9 goals in 21 games for someone struggling with injuries and a centre mid seems good to me. He will have decent amount of assists as well.

As someone who despises the whole Sky PR machine for the Premiership I would have to disagree with this, in his prime Gerrard was world class, Liverpool would have been nowhere near the Champions League finals without him in 05 and 07. There are few players who have carried their team to the extent Gerrard has at a successful team.

He won the FA cup (literally, won it himself again) in 2006 so, you're wrong there.

And it's funny how people want to discount Gerrard's Champions League achievements - it was 7 years ago so it doesn't count? :56: Guess that makes Zidane's world cup irrelevant too then aye? Or Maradona's or Pele's.........

Never mind the very best, even the 6th best team in La Liga absolutely shagged the best team in England. How you can discount the Bundesliga or Serie A so easily is unfair. AC Milan hammered Arsenal and Arsenal beat Milan easily in the return. Napoli beat Man City and comfortably beat Chelsea before being comfortably beaten themselves in the return leg. This hardly suggests a gap between the quality of these teams at the top of Serie A and the Premiership. If we are dealing in facts, the Premiership is the most hyped up and advertised league in the world. That doesn't necessarily reflect its quality and if the consumer is always right I suppose that means One Direction are the best band around at the minute.

And for the last 5 years or more English teams have been humping all competition with the exception of Barcelona, your point is?
This season, English teams were all * - you're looking at the exception not a rule that has developed.

If in 5 years time English teams have continued to get knocked out then fair enough, you will be right, but right NOW the EPL is still the best league on Earth.

I'm not saying England as a nation, or English players are the best - of course they're not and all (Gerrard included) are greatly helped by their better foreign colleagues like David Silva for example.

BUT anyone saying the English League is less than 2nd is just being anti-English for the sake of it.

The only thing the Bundesliga has over it is attendances and atmosphere, and even if I saw a good game in Italy (which I have this season a few times, mainly featuring Napoli who btw just got beat by an English team in Europe) I would be tempted to discount it because of the number of match fixing and cheating scandals over there.

    I agree with this.
I still think on his day he can be a top 10 midfielder in world football.

Fans can chat as much * as we like on the internet, but I think if you were to ask any professional they would put Gerrard right up there.

Lionel Messi, just the other day, listed Wayne Rooney as one of his top 3 strikers, but I bet all of my humble vcash that he wouldn't come top 3 in a poll on TalkCeltic.com :icon_mrgreen:

I thought my point was obvious, that there is basically nothing in between them. You have also repeated that Napoli got beat by an English team, which I already said. I also mentioned that they beat City, got through the group ahead of City (the 2nd best team in England), and also beat Chelsea in the first leg, hardly suggesting a significant gap in quality, so I wouldn't say the English league is necessarily a clear 2nd. To reiterate, there isn't much in it, the only huge advantage the EPL has is the amount of hype and its astonishingly pompous sense of self importance, best epitomised by its chairman.
