If we pay that money and fail to get in the CL then it will be a disaster. This boards mentality is about making a profit and not taking any risks. I'm not happy with that personally but I can understand why they are doing it.

What I will say is you don't have to spend £5/6 million to bring a quality player in.

Exactly. Not a chance this will happen.

We have spent 6M on Pukki, Balde and Derk, whose combined wages will be circa 30K +. That is as much a risk as paying 6M for one player.

Time to cut down on the players and bring in some quality. We can do it, we just need to find the right player to justify that outlay.

Would love him at Celtic but £6 million is a lot for a player with a bad injury past and inconsistent form.

We offered £5m for him, and they came back and told us they wanted £8m.

The money is there to be spent - so stop being deluded yourself, mein freund!

I totally agree. Buying one or two 'projects' at a time and one proven player for a little extra would be preferable in my opinion to constantly picking up 5 or 6 players who are always going to be hit or miss. From our summer purchases I think only Van Dijk has thus far proven himself worth the fee.

We invest a lot of money in our youth system and in my opinion some of the players we have been bringing through are better than the dross cluttering the squad but just haven't had the same chance. So why not augment our squad with youngsters while there is little challenge in the league and buy a proven striker to put the ball in the net at a higher level?

Lennon said Celtic are in a position to spend £6M on player and haven't be in the position to spend a decent amount of money for a while until now.

Sounds good, but he did say rumors linking us with Fletcher is just speculation and thinks he may cost more than the £6M being quoted.

I was more surprised by poyets comments referring to us and neil and then anyone in general, basically make an offer and we'll see as long as it's kept in house..

    Very interesting :97:

Didn't say hands off or he's not for sale..

"We're in a position where we can spend a bit of money and it's a position we probably haven't been in for quite a considerable time, a position as strong as this, and we'll endeavour to bring quality in."

    Sounds good to me!

The thing is usually neil or someone will say once we have good money to spend but this time he's banging that drum and keeps mentioning what we could spend and that we need real quality in..

Makes me doubt what I'm saying about how much we'll spend..

    I'd love to be wrong..

Sceptical about the whole story. I thought 5 and 6 million players were out of our budget; even before wages are considered.

Good player but I don`t buy into the story.

Fletcher is a wicked player and at 26 he would bring a bit of experience to the club as opposed to getting in the young-guns every tranfer window.

If we signed him on a 4 year-deal then we would have him at 30 - the peak age of all strikers.

He would bag us goals galore. And whatever the cost, we will make that back over the years if he starts to ping them them. The amount of shirts with his name on the back of it, filling the stadium up again to see a player who will likely score in almost every match he plays. And someone who could probably do it for us in the CL.

    Completely worth the purchase.

I think id prefer the ice man. Fingerblasting Finbo is more consistent and better value for money.
