    We can afford it, of course we can the thing is will lenny find a player that both he and the board thinks is good enough to pay 6M for.

    Lenny will have lots of players on his wishlist for around 4-6M but the problem will be whether lawell agrees with these valuations.

    We could definatley afford it, all I'm saying is I just can't see Lennon being sanctioned to spend that amount of money.

    Not double bluffing I just think those days are long gone..

    Drastic circumstances only would possibly get that kind of money spent again,for example losing the league again or needing it in January to claw it back..

    We have it but I just don't see us anytime soon spending up to 6 on ANY player..

    fletcher has got a good five years left in him and could be the difference that will help us qualify for the champions league, i suspect a player may move to sunderland to sweeten the deal

    No chance we would pay over 4 million for any player. Anyone who thinks we would are deluding themselves. Those days are over.

    Even Neil said it was just speculation so don't get your hopes up.

    Awk shut up, of course we'd pay over that price if Lennon found a player he thought was worth it. He was saying we were making inroads in regards to signing Finnbogason in the summer, I'd imagine we had bid over 4 million then.

    If we were to be interested in high profile signings worth a lot money say 4/5/6 mill do you think Lenny would be saying 'oh we're desperate to get this kid in and we have bundles to spend'

    ...no.

    These kind of players are almost always wanted by clubs with more money to spend than us..

    We haven't bought a player over £4 million since Brown, nearly 7 years ago, I don't see what really warrants us spending £6 million on 1 player when the league is a given.

    How so? By the sound of it, Heerenveen were moving the goalposts and wanted a larger fee. I would be surprised if we paid £6 million for a player, but it's not something we're definitely not going to do.

    At the moment there's a couple of reasons:

    We're aiming to get in the CL for the third year running.
    A lot of fans are majorly * off with the club.
    Attendances are absolutely dreadful, which will have the club worried.
    Our team is rank, playing * football every week.

    For those reasons, the possibility of signing a £5/6 million player isn't so crazy.

    I doubt we will spend 6 million on a player unless he signs a 5 year contract,would give us more time to get our money out of him in case he was to let the contract run down and leave on a free.
