His game isn't really about prolific goalscoring tbf. Never has been. Even early days at Hibs he never managed even 15 goals in the SPL.

    Fletcher last season - 13 in 30
    Griff last season - 11 in 31
    Klimala last season - 7 in 22

If anything they have comparable records. Klimala is a going guy who’s developing and Griff is in the worst patch of his entire career.

You trying to use that as a reason for signing Fletcher?

No Celtic striker has ever ‘made it’ without being a prolific goal scorer.

Even the guys that had other attributes always had to be regular goal scorers such as Sutton and Hartson. Guys like Rasmussen, Ciftci, Lassad, Kazim Richards were all big strikers with different attributes but every single one flopped because they didn’t score enough.

I’ve seen literally nothing of Fletcher to suggest he wouldn’t be the exact same.

Griff’s “worst patch” has been going on for 3 years now. He’s scored 30 goals in the last 3 seasons.

I’m failing to understand what your point is here.

What I’m saying, as well as others, is that we could be doing with a guy like Fletcher to call upon in games like that today. Yes we have Bayo, but he’s pish.

As Lewis said, Fletcher’s game has never just been about goals. He’s a good hold up player and is fairly good with the ball on the deck.

And the sad reality is that right now, I’d have Fletcher partnering Eddy before Klimala (who is a raw project) or Griff (who is unfit and unprofessional).

I don’t think my point could be any clearer? Steven Fletcher doesn’t score enough to be a Celtic striker.

Your hypothetical situation isn’t reality, there are tens of thousands of players to choose from not just Fletcher or stick with what we have.

Steven Fletcher is * * man. Runs like he's treading water, liable to go missing in games. If he was playing today he wouldn't have made a bit of difference.

I think Fletcher is above the players you list there.

I'm not saying I want us to sign players who arent prolific. But he gives us a different option in games like today with the attributes he does bring.

I've never rated him but his hold up, link play and ability in the air is something most of our strikers dont possess.

He wont score 30 goals but most strikers we attract wont. As long as we have one guy as the focal point and talisman (edouard etc) I wouldnt mind having an option like Fletcher off the bench is literally all I'm saying.

Well your point is utter nonsense in that case.

Nobody is suggesting we sign him to be a regular goalscorer. Everyone knows that’s not his job. He’d be to us what Llorente was to Spurs.

And he’s a level above the likes of CKR, Ciftci, Rasmussen etc.

There is no space in a Celtic team for a striker that doesn’t score goals regularly.

If you think that’s utter nonsense then I don’t really have a reply to that.

The recruitment team have some job on their hands then, signing players with a 1 in 2 record at a decent level who are happy to be our 4th choice striker.

We don’t sign 4th choice strikers. Nor does any club I would suggest.

He'll score or assist enough to make him worthwhile and on a free its low risk, high reward. His physicality and prowess in the air will give him plenty of assists and at worst give us a different attacking dimension. That can only be a positive. If it helps make it more palatable for u, just imagine we signed him as a midfielder that exclusively plays up front.

I don’t think he will hence the reason I don’t want him here...

I don’t need to reconcile anything in my head, I just want us to sign Ajeti over him and at least publicly that seems to be the choice we have to make.

Could we sign better? I’d like to think so. Would he have made a difference today? I definitely think he could have.

The fact of the matter is we need a centre back, winger and striker in as soon as possible. No more messing around.

Conjecture. He was good last season.
