He’s not injured, he’s getting upto full fitness and Klimala is in with a shout, he scored at the weekend too.

Neil Lennon has confirmed Celtic are locked in talks with Steven Fletcher – but warned he has several strike options to bolster his frontline.

Record Sport revealed this week discussions had opened up with the Scotland targetman and it looked close to being pushed over the line before the negotiations stalled over the length of contract.

Celtic have offered a one year deal with an option of another year while Fletcher is also interesting Championship Stoke City.

The Hoops won’t get in a bidding war for a back up front man and it is understood former Charlton attacker Lyle Taylor is another potential target – while remaining in the hunt for Peterborough’s Ivan Toney and West Ham’s Albian Ajeti.

Lennon admitted he’s got several strikers on his list at the moment as he’s keen to shore up his attack with Vakoun Bayo injured, Leigh Griffiths playing catch up with his fitness and Patryk Klimala seen as a long term prospect.

Taylor has long been on the radar of Celts –and Rangers – and is a free agent after refusing a contract extension at the Addicks.

Lennon said: “We’re in talks with his (Fletcher) representatives but nothing’s confirmed one way or another.

“We’re linked with a few (strikers) so it’s obviously an area we want to add in. We’re spinning a few plates so if we can get a quality one in it’ll help us.

“We’ve got good strikers in the building already but it’d be really good to add another one, just for squad depth and competition.”

Celts are still in the fight for Posh forward Toney but are facing increased competition for the 24-year-old. The Hoops saw a £5m bid rejected but Brentford’s bid has also stalled with Brighton waiting in the wings and QPR also now entered the race.

The Ajeti interest has cooled as the former Basel frontman has asked for time to consider his options.

So it’s a knock, he’s not going to be out for any sort of long time. What about Klimala? Seemed fine at the weekend?

Hopefully just using this as a bluff to force the hand of Ajeti and/or Barry Fry (Toney). Want to wake up tomorrow and us to have signed one of them and Fletcher to have signed with Stoke.

So by that you'd assume Fletcher is at the top of the list, you usually work down, don't you?

    Jesus wept.

Maybe this is a mutually beneficial transfer rumour,us being linked he gets his move to stoke and ajeti might think we are moving on and get his * in gear

“Steven Fletcher update; Celtic proposal wasn’t acceptable, and player now looking at other options.

What’s the betting that our peter wanted a ‘pay when played’ contract, most sites saying it was Fletcher wanting a two year deal with peter only offering one year but pay when played makes sense for US with an old back up striker & player was stupid enough to say playing for us would be dream come true etc

Would have potentially took him as a very short-term back up, but have always thought he was massively overrated, and latterly, *.
