Rodgers would get him to the player that he was meant to be.

What a signing this would be if we pull this off.

Liked him years ago when he first came in at swansea. Him and another winger and this will be my best window for years.

Have to start watching at least some English football as I know nothing about him. Mind you, that was the story with Scott Sinclair last year and that turned out alright! If Brendan says he is good enough that will do. Only thing is that he wouldn't be replacing Boyata for qualifiers as it seems he is going to need to get up to speed.

Important to remember as well... he's still only 25. Not as if he's a washed up vet by any means, still a young player whose lost his way and needs a fresh start. Was once touted to be the next big CB for England. I really think we should give him a shot, with the back room staff we have I think he'd be in a great position to succeed.

    Definitely.

The atmosphere at Celtic among the players, fans and staff would be an ideal environment for him. He has the ability and I think Rodgers, Davies and Kennedy will get the best from him and if they can he'll be a real asset for us.

This would be a fantastic signing.

I am really excited about this, I hope we can pull it off. This is one very much in the Scott Sinclair mould, he needs a change of scenery. Get him in Brendan!

He would be a good addition look what Brendan has done with our big Belgian defender who we thought his time was over and had played very limited Senior games for previous clubs, then you have this guy a player Rodgers has worked with knows all about him but coming to Glasgow with we know how them Sevco * are relentless on attacking the player, the club and a ill conceived weakness with his off the field problems he would be targeted by them scum.

Brendan Rodgers, the Celtic manager, has extended a helping hand to troubled England defender Steven Caulker, but believes any talk of signing the 25-year-old is premature given the player’s public mental health problems.

The 25-year-old was mentored by Rodgers when the Celtic manager was in charge at Swansea, with the player taken under his wing following a loan move from Tottenham. Caulker, currently under contract at QPR for another year, has recently gone public with his battle against depression, gambling and alcohol addictions and revealed that in his darkest episodes he had contemplated suicide.

Caulker has sought professional help for his mental health problems but has been training on his own after he was omitted from QPR’s pre-season training tour. Rodgers has left the door ajar for a possible move for the defender but believes the priority is for the player to find his feet before re-focusing on his career.

There were reports circulating yesterday afternoon that Celtic had already opened talks with the player, but Rodgers has maintained that his interest for now is purely on a pastoral capacity.

“I spoke to him as a former manager,” said Rodgers. “The kid messaged me. He has been suffering for the last period of time and he looked to me as someone who looked after him when he was 19 and I was only too happy to reach out and help him. We spoke at length about his life and his situation and just where he is at.

“He is a boy that if he can get it together and find a peace then he is an awesome talent. He is 6 foot 3, quick, strong, he can play. You would take him to war with you. He is unbelievable, both boxes, he is an incredible young footballer but he is suffering. Having had experience in trying to help him then I was only too happy to do that.

“At this stage there is nothing more than that. He is obviously a QPR player and I was only too happy to speak to him and help him try to shape his life really.”

Dedryck Boyata is facing a three-month injury lay-off after damaging his knee ligaments, which could prompt Rodgers to make another move into the transfer market to supplement the defensive cover available to him.

Caulker has one cap for England and having worked with the player already, Rodgers would know what he was getting from the defender.

“Not at this stage,” said the Celtic manager, when asked about a potential move the player. “He is a boy that I have spoken to him. It was only recently, the last few days. He is a big, talented player and he is only 25 but bless him, we’ll see with that. Initially it is a cry for help. I don’t think it is worth going there yet.”
