    * *. i know its good to dream big and all that, but thats stretching it a bit.

in today's modern game and for a club of our resources, making the quarters/maybe semis of the CL should be considered a similarly big achievement

even clubs like Utd, Juve, either Milans would consider a semi-final in the CL a hugely successful season and look at the spending power they have compared to us

It is true though unless we do another clean sweep then our season can always be better

you could argue that no matter how successful a season is, it could always be better.

but the point you initially made seemed to suggest that supporters were downhearted or fed up which a signing like this could reverse, and i just dont think this is the case.

the feeling amongst fans in general (to me, and many others it would seem), is that we are playing really good football, getting some very good performances and results and that in most ways we are generally moving in the right direction. would you not agree?

I genuinely hope you don't include the Champions League in the clean sweep?! That's a nonsense.

Given we have 1 cup in the bag, in the semi final of another and top of the league, I would say we are doing pretty well. Add that to a good squad, good youth and a good manager, we are in a great position.

Always good to want more but some people are never happy.

Made comment that signing Gerrard would lift the mood of fans. Gets turned into a negative implication. Some very touchy wans about hi.

I think mate that people now have had enough of these stars stating they love celtic and would love to play for them...well do that before the zimmer comes out and prove it...if you love the club and you are a wealthy star, take a wage drop and prove you love the club..

Bringing him in would upset the balance (what about the bench players)? He plays for 3 months (hoping no injuries) to then * off again...not for me..

Building a team and keeping it built for as long as lawell can is our going forward now

I honestly love gerrard as a player...but not now,we don't need it now

Later that night I'd still be with her. The only way I'd be leaving the building would be in my coffin.

I was referring to your clean sweep comment mate, nothing about Stevie G. Personally Not for me, great player etc but for 3 months I just don't think its worth it and I would imagine it wouldn't be well received in the squad if he takes a starting spot. If he doesn't, and is only on the bench, even more reason not to bother.

Nearly pointless commenting on it as it's never going to happen, but, no, simply no. Though Gerrard is still a very good player for our standards he is not the world class player he would cost like. He plays in a position where we have no shortage of talent currently and would come just for the few months in between the MLS seasons, missing both the decisive qualifying rounds of UCL and the end of the league and cup finals, which I think that are the two most important points of our season. I think the mere fact that he preferred to play in MLS rather than keep playing in a competitive big league shows that he knows he is more valuable as a buzz generating celebrity than a footballer, and unlike some * franchise of USA we have idols of our own and we don't need to borrow Liverpool's.

I wouldn't be against his signing if that was the case but I believe Celtic will lose money with his wages rather than gain with merchandising by signing him. He is not a world class player and by that I mean that he has little appeal to anyone outside Britain or not a fan of a Premier League club. Nobody outside those two categories (and yes, there is a vast footballing world outside the EPL) will follow Celtic more closely because Gerrard is playing in it.

There is no * way this happens. 12 year ago maybe not now. Why do these guys not just enjoy their holiday in the off season like every * else?

After years of elite football, the probably miss it. And, with all due respect to the MLS, it is an environment that probably reinforces these guys' belief that they can still cut it at the top level.

David Beckham kept coming back to Europe, even though he was nowhere near the level of the clubs who kept signing him.

If he can't last longer than 25 secs in a Man Utd v Liverpool game what would he be like in the intensity of the Glasgow Derby !? (Especially if the Thistle players targeted him.)

Am I the only one who thinks this is a conjecture with the New Balance deal as it is stated by our club that it's performanced based? If you take into account that Lawwell and his son has acquaintances with Manchester City it seems like we are taking the same business initiative as the City's with Lampard in terms loaning him before the MLS' starts?

IF this loan gets materialized and you take into account of his current wages which is saying he is on £7280000 per year that is £160k a week. Say we do get him on a loan for 3 months, that will cost us just under £2million which is more than affordable. Then you take into account the name 'Gerrard' on Celtic strips that will get sold would no doubt give Celtic a overall profit from merchandise/strip sales. When we loaned Robbie Keane our strips sales rocketed into the top 10 of the world according to Nike's research.

I think IF this happens its great business by the board we are basically making a profit in financial operations and while benefiting in terms of quality and experience for the squad/footballing department.

This is a pragmatic situation if you calculate the possibility.

Nowhere near enough are going to buy a Gerrard Celtic top. Keane only did well because he is Irish, no-one gives a * about Gerrard.

They will when it comes to getting people in the stadium I reckon, which is quite sad (good for business) when you think about it. Will sell for other teams as well cos im sure they'd sell extra tickets (home support) on our away games for the novelty factor
