Stephen Welsh

  1. I would be willing to sell only if it would fund the Jota and Carter Vickers deal, should reject every bid until it comes close to those 2

  2. Be odd to sell for only a couple. 5+ then maybe.

  3. He’s worth at least £5m to us at the moment and he has good potential.

id never sell him for that. we need a certain number of homegrown players to fill quotas i would imagine and young promising scottish players in the ilk of welsh dont come about too often.

Hes calm, composed and you can see he is developing extremley well. he is raw but there is an excellent centre back there and one we could base a team round in a couple of seasons.

i would have him play more minutes for us and have him play a big part in domestic games next year. in order to leave our more experienced defenders fresh for champions league duty.:smoke:

Aye I think people forget that sometimes, shouldn't consider selling him for that reason alone. I mean in the summer alone we lost Ajer, Brown, Christie and Griffiths who all helped fill those positions in the past.

Wouldn't be as much of an issue as it currently is if the previous management/Lawwell had done a better job in scooping up the better talent in the league mind you.

Plays like Big Roy Aitken. We couldn’t be guaranteed to replace him either. No chance.

I think the club's financial situation is healthy enough that we can buy both without selling Welsh. It's a good job he signed a new contract in April. Means we're in a good position if Welsh did actually decide he wants a move.

Udinese are looking to Scotland for reinforcements in defence, making another January approach for Celtic centre-back Stephen Welsh.

The young Scot will turn 22 later this month and plays as a centre-back, but can also do a job on the right side of defence.

A product of the Celtic youth academy, he only recently signed a new contract until 2025.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Udinese have set their sights on Welsh and already saw an initial offer turned down, but are preparing an improved bid for the talent at circa €2m.

Welsh would be the third Scottish player in Serie A this season, after Aaron Hickey at Bologna and Liam Henderson for Empoli.

He has 19 competitive appearances for the Hoops this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

Udinese need a new defender, having sent Samir to Claudio Ranieri’s Watford in the January transfer window.

The two clubs are both owned by the Pozzo family, so regularly exchange players for little or no money.

  9. 2million euros you have to be * joking gee them starfelt instead

  10. Such an absolute non story this. We should throw in a bid for haaland for 10mill + add-ons at this rate

  11. Must admit if I'm Welsh, the prospect of going to Serie A and living in Italy at 21, wow. What an opportunity. Especially if he still has a way to go before he's a first-choice prospect here. All depends on whether he wants to stay and really look to fight for that centre-back spot. But you're spot-on, he's a level-headed boy and if Celtic accepted an offer I think he would be off in a shot. Good to see the club hold firm so far though, he's still a valuable talent for the club and currently under a long-term contract.

Postecoglou and Celtic have also made it clear to Udinese that Welsh will not be leaving Parkhead in this window.

The Hoops are not in the market to let their Scotland under-21 captain leave and despite the Serie A side being keen on a loan or a £1.6million permanent transfer, neither was entertained.

Reports in Italy have stated that Udinese are set to come back in but if they do they will be met with the same dismissal as before for the Scotland under-21 captain.

Postecoglou wants Welsh to remain and to fight it out for one of the two central defensive positions.

The Scotland under-21 cap is in the mix alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and soon to be returning Christopher Jullien.

Welsh is rated highly and has recently signed a new long-term contract with his boyhood heroes that should keep him at Celtic Park until the summer of 2025.

  14. Where is 1.6 coming from? He’s a promising young player. If Patterson went for 12 with less experience but does look like he could have serious potential then we shouldn’t entertain anything under £6m atm.

  15. Fecking do one ya Italian cheapskates'. There's a mob in the south side of Glasgow who would bite yer hand off for that type of money though

Doesn't the lad who owns Udinese also own Watford? An English Premier League owner can only cough up £1.6m? :giggle1:

If he is joining Udinese it should be on a loan contract with option to buy at £6m minimum plus minimum 10% sell on.
Playing in Serie A could only benefit him and us.

  18. :giggle1: Cynic in me says the Italians are trying to get him cheap and then transfer him to Watford in the summer. You’ve definitely got to watch out for these “football groups”.
