    Love him!!!
    A proper defender
Really love the fact that at such a young age and experience he was is still really vocal, and you see him all the time pointing to players directing them.
He’s going to be a huge player for us

if he was a new signing that we picked up in Jan from Italy we would all be going crazy over him

one of very few positives this year

a great reader of the game and good in the air similar in many ways in size and reading of the game to baresi , ajer for everything he's good at is nowhere near that level. Celtic couldn't afford someone of carvalho's ability. I'm not doubting ajer but I'm saying he's not what we need playing center half just now, we need someone to win headers and dominate in the air similar to balde.

Transfermarkt says 6’ 2”, but either way, he’s not as short as Ajer makes him look, as you say.

For those who are in love.....
That is on the short side..

Ideally he'd be best in a back 3 where he wasn't isolated by a bigger man up on him. No in our kinda back 3 this season, but a more fluid, better setup one..

He's more than competent in a back 4 though but think he would be really comfortable in a back 3 on the right hand side of it..

    * sake, he's got three different heights already in this thread:giggle1:

Thought he did well. Don't know if he's the answer but can't remember him letting us down any time he's played.

The only place I’ve seen him listed as 5’11 is in Football Manager, haha.
Tbh, watching him play, he could be 5’11, he could be 6’1. Who knows? Point is, he isn’t tiny, even if he is on the shorter side for a centre-half.

Sergio Ramos, Nicolas Otamendi, Mateo Musacchio (among others) are roughly the same height.
Cannavarro was 2-4 inches shorter, as were/are a good few others whom it hasn’t held back from doing well at CB.

    great reader of the game

And yet he wasn’t aggressive or particularly good in the air.

As it is, Ajer’s actually good in the air. Just not when attacking the opposition box for some reason. It’s not his biggest strength but it isn’t a weakness by any means.

We won't agree on ajer, I'll always say he's not physical or good enough in the air ( loses too many headers)to play centre half but I really believe he could be outstanding in a deep midfield role but we're on a Stephen Welsh post and I thought he was fantastic today. I'd love to see some more young boys given a run in the team to see what they're all about, I also believe the fans would be a lot more patient with them and desperate to do well. I hope going forward we show more trust on kids we develop ourselves

I think that he has a much higher ceiling than I thought initially. He has acquitted himself very well over the past few months in less-than-ideal circumstances.

The bhoy has been excellent in a team of underachieving overpaid tossers. He needs games to gain experience but all in all he has done very very well indeed.

He's maybe shorter but he's the best in the air at the minute on set pieces, hasn't let us down good passer dissent take risks and solid in the tackle. Well done lad for taking your chance

Guess you could say that about every position in the team right now.
Guy has not let us down, deserves to keep his place.
Looking ahead, he has a future with us.

I would disagree, for being 6’5 he is pretty poor in the air in both boxes. He has had a hand in a fair few headed goals we have lost against them of late, Katic last year and he lost the first header yesterday against Balogun.

I think we have badly missed Julien this year, he has his faults too but he is capable of defending the box better than anyone else in the team and is a threat in the opposition box.

That’s fine. People forget some of the so called smaller centre half’s have been the best in the world.

He has done absolutely nothing wrong. I would see the point if we are talking about Duffy but Welsh hasn’t put a foot wrong, that I can’t remember since he came into the side.

He is getting better each game and we need home grown talent and would rather give them a game.
