If a player left say cliftonville who have won the northern irish league twice in a row now, to sign for dundee, who have won * all for decades, would you say he lacks ambition and a desire to win trophies?

Obviously you can't make a direct comparison for a few reasons, but it demonstrates that for alot of players, they would rather compete in a stronger league and win less trophies, money aside, and I don't hold that against them.

Most players are driven by money these days unfortunately. Down to how the English have developed there league over the years! However, I really do think that it will be there downfall in years to come as it's not sustainable to continue. New rules and regulations will be devised too! As a result our well run club will flourish and again attract the best players!

Johansen's going nowhere. He's like Lustig.

He really has taken off now that he is fully settled in at Celtic. Plus he clearly appreciates what he has at Celtic and the type of club he is playing for so hopefully he will be wearing the hoops for many years to come.
On a side note and I have said this in other threads a few times. I would like to see us look hard at Scandinavian players. There are obviously many good players in Scandinavia but equally they seem to settle in and fit in well with playing for Celtic and living in Glasgow in general. Johansen and Lustig being two great examples.

From an interview with Norwegian journalists:

"Where will you be two years from now?"

    "I'll be at Celtic"

There is a very unnerving trait amongst Celtic fans just now to try and hypothetically punt our players to the EPL or if not suggest they aren't good enough to play there.

There is more to football than the EPL being 'The Holy Grail', some players have other ambitions such as winning trophies, developing themselves as a player or playing in front of 60k people that will treat them like a * if they give their all every time they play.

I wonder why these types of comments never existed when Henrik was here? He certainly didn't stay here to play Rangers (RIP) 4 times a Season and that's the only difference from his time until now.

Because we had a top side and were considered a force in Europe then, had a full house every week in a higher quality League too. If we somehow unearthed a player of similar quality one Summer he'd be sold by January to the Premier League.

The point was that the fans would have him sold or would compare him to the EPL and have a wankathon over how they would do down there, rather than appreciating what they bring for us.

The League was * then and it is * now, the only difference is there's no rotten cheating * from the opposite side of the City to contend with.

There is zero factual basis to you saying they'd be sold within 6 months. Henrik Larsson turned down Man United whilst at Celtic because he leaves a legacy which will be here long after he is no longer with us. People and players like that still exist, we have a couple within our current squad.

Like I said, there is far more to a successful career than making an EPL side interested in you. You move to a run of the mill English side, pick up a few more thousand a week and win absolutely * all, retire to your fancy house with your fancy car and you are less than a footnote in the history of that Club.

The demise of an ex football club has changed some of our own i think. This is not an insult directed to these people by the way. "imagine that happened to us" is the thinking behind it. The thing is it wont happen to us. Making our team as strong as possible is the best thing we can do financially. If we are good enough to make it through the qualifiers every season then we will be rolling in it. Constantly punting our key men and we better get used to yo yoing in and out of the CL if we are lucky.

That's the way it is . Same for all clubs really apart from Barca and Madrid. As soon as a player is good enough for a bigger club they leave for one .
