Comparisons to Aimar and Riquelme :smiley-laughing002:

Give it a couple of weeks and a few average performances and he'll be back to being * again...

It's a comparison to their style of play, not quality. That much is obvious.

He doesn't even play like them though, that was my point.

I think these two comparisons are fairly reasonable ones to make, don't see what's so funny about them.

Oh wait that's right, they probably wrote him off and are too bitter to acknowledge his true quality.

Johansen has been a bit up and down in form had a great game against Motherwell but against Dundee he had a poor game.

I think Johansen is a good player and I've thought that since he signed so...

He's obviously nowhere near the quality of a player like Aimar and Riquelme (yet). More to the point I was making though is he doesn't play like them. His game is more energy, workrate and the extra quality he does have he puts to good use.

He doesn't have the guile and vision of a typical 'No.10'.

It's where he's played mate I admit I gave him pelters when playing deeper, but since he's moved forward he's a totally different player, and I think he needs Brown playing aswell to cover for when he's forward and vice versa

He's not a typical number 10, but I feel is direct passing and the way he tries to make things happen are kind of like Riquelme or Aimar. He's not someone who seems to pass for the sake of passing he passes with a purpose.

I think someone like Rosicky back in his Dortmund days is probably the best comparison for me. Similar energy and workrate to Johansen with that added direct passing and creativity.

No mate, doors closed, you can't change your mindset on his change of form

Exactly, he's not even a number 10 for us, just more advanced in a 3..

For me, take away the comparisons and focus on style and he's nothing like them, they are number 10's and luxury playmakers , think i remember riqueleme doing the biz further back..
2 great players though, fantastic at there peak..

There must be better comparisons out there, most of the ones so far in here are way off..

Should be starting every game further forward with Biton/Bitton playing deeper

    :50:

    Brown Biton

    Forrest Johansen Wakaso

That's how I'd like to see us line up in midfield.

His performance, against Motherwell, reminded me of a proper Number 10 inside forward; Aimar and Riquelme were both of which.

I'm not saying and haven't said he's as good as either player, I still stand by it 100%. He was sublime against Motherwell.

Just seeing the highlights from Motherwell game. Could have had a few goals and a couple of assists. What a difference in him lately. Commons has no chance getting back in the team if he keeps this form up.

Sorry, but, disagree big time with that. Some of the passes he picks out on a regular basis are excellent, so dangerous in and around the box.

Aye he's not an Aimar or Riquelme but he has plenty of ability to be a number 10, with the energy and work rate to go with it.

Don't think he's style is like Riquelme or Aimar at all. His role reminds me more of Di Maria at Madrid last season except slightly higher up the pitch.

He leads the teams pressing and is the main man when it comes to starting quick counters.
As soon as he starts pressing the rest follow.

His reading of the game is outstanding. The amount of interceptions he makes in the attacking third of the pitch is brilliant.

Players like Johansen and Lustig who seem to have real passion for our club are what i want to see more of. Matthews is another player i like.

Too many recent signings only talk the talk and then are shown up on the pitch by their lack of desire. If Ronny can sign more players like these guys then i will be very happy.

There are some Scottish lads in the team who have the same qualities (Broony) and i think Gordon will be in the same mould, Unfortunately i think VVD is too good and will be bought by EPL club.

I love players who chase lost causes and give 100%. Sammy was one of the few exceptions but Lenny failed to sub him when all could see after 10mins he was not on form

Hopefully Stefan's work ethic rubs off on some others

    Good posts..

That link of johansen talking about the 15 year old makes it seem like we're in a good position here, still unlikely though but..
