I was slagging his form though, he was playing * so i was calling him * at the time..

You want a badge for concluding that?

There is a difference between a bad footballer, and a good footballer playing badly for a short time.

I was praising him when he came and he fell off towards the season and started off for the most part of this, absolutely terrible..

Paul knows though, he quoted 20 of my posts to show last time, even though he was mixing them months/season apart to suit his argument :56:

Do I have to re-quote your 40 posts saying he was 'pish' or are you just going to admit you were wrong about him?

That being said I don't doubt for a second is he has a bad game midweek he'll go back to being 'pish'.

Jesus wept, some of the comparisons and unreal wankathonsware starting to get a bit cringe worthy tbh.

He is on a good run of form showing us that he is a good player, yes against yer Motherwells and Ross County etc (can only play what is in front of you I get that)
Wait till he bosses a game against Barcelona and the likes, like what Wanyama did to warrant the praise. Then you can start with comparisons.

The irony in suggesting the praise of Johansen is getting cringeworthy then suggesting Wanyama bossed a game against Barcelona :56:

He scored a peach against a good Salzburg side last week, that's the highest level of competition we have to judge him against and he is comfortable there.

In before the bell , knew you'd drop this line, go for it?

The position hampered the player, that there is no doubt, still he was pish further back..

    The irony..

Wanyama dominated the midfield when we played Barca and got the praised he deserved, well everyone apart from you it seems???

Aye he took his goal well last week and as I said is in a good run off form but the praise he is getting showered under is OTT at the moment.

Quotes can look bad out of context, but I read the forum a lot. You did effectively write him off as a Celtic player.

Football fans are fickle by nature. We've been on the forum long enough to realise that.

Exactly. His ability lies somewhere between his form at the start of the season, and his current form. A strong, solid player capable of chipping in with a few goals & assists,

No there's plenty of doubt he has shone in a more advanced position but he can play deeper no bother at all. Hence the fact at 23 he's already won Norwegian POTY and was the best Norwegian footballer anywhere period last year.

Wanyama didn't, by any stretch of the imagination, boss the midfield against Barca.

He was excellent but Barca controlled the game for 90 minutes. They 'bossed' us and we took our 2 chances.

In his role of not giving any * a whiff, closing them down and not letting them be comfortable on the ball.

Yeah I would say he bossed them.

Well you or Paul show me where i have said otherwise anyway? I'm sure i was definitely questioning it at the time and I've given him ultimate praise for his 'turnaround' as that's what it's been, a big change..
Not bad for someone with an agenda against him, oh wait, the term used is fickle..

Paul 100% took and changed about my quotes and dates miles apart to suit his agenda/argument..

He probably needs to be more disciplined to play that deeper role. He seems a naturally willing runner, so I guess that might be difficult. In his current role, he is free to go and close down anyone he wants.

Brown had the same problem when he joined at a similar age. Brown developed into a deeper midfielder who closed down when necessary and plays the simple passes that keep us ticking.
Johansen has the ability to win the ball high up the park and play the final ball. We need to continue to make the most of that

I wouldn't go as far as to say you have 'an agenda against him'. Nor would I go as far as to trawl through 6 month old posts at 2am on a Sunday. But, to my memory, you were critical of his ability rather than his form. I'm happy to be proved wrong, though.

And football fans, in general, absolutely are fickle. Being fickle and having an agenda are two completely different things.

Neither would i to be fair..

I was critical of both your right, he was woeful in his passing at the time, bullied far too easy and was pressing defenders and keepers like a mad man leaving gaping holes in the middle..
I've said all this, proper slated him at the time and i stand by it at(at that time) as for me he was playing * and his ability was being questioned and slated..

Since advancing further forward and growing in confidence, we've seen a totally different player (mental when you consider people have been claiming he's been playing like this all season), so why the acolades and clamour for him now?
I've been singing his praises for weeks and rightly so..

    Fickle i am anything but..

I'm assuming this was said in gest? He is doing well and we are playing to his strengths but lets not get carried away, he's a good player in good form but he's far from the messiah some have recently described him as in this thread. It wasn't so long ago (about 3month) when he was being slated right, left and centre for his performances. Some would do well to take a level head when it comes to eulogising. Mulgrew was the main man not so long ago now he seems to be condemned by one & all. Calm down. He's pretty good, playing well and I hope he keeps it up but he's not 'world class' etc etc

He actually plays almost identical to another Barcelona player - Rakitic, only how Rakitic played for Sevilla, doesnt really play the same now at Barcelona.
